Full Written Review
Following the success of the previous map Survival Games, Team Vareide quickly made another map, this time making it more unique, and better than ever.
The map itself takes place a post-apocalyptic city area with a wide variety of settings, from urban neighborhoods, to the underground subway system, all encompassed by the huge fallen towers sitting near the center of the map. It makes for a very unique and different setting to house a survival games match, but it manages to work and be more fun than ever. It is filled with richly detailed interiors, and creative use of redstone at certain points throughout the map.
The Survival Games 2 is a very well made piece of art. There is never a point on the map where you start to think that the builder just broke random blocks in the side of a building to make it seemed abandoned (as many maps tend to do). Instead, the buildings look collapsed with collision impacts visible. Diagonal block placement makes for a more realistic interpretation of collapsed buildings than does a few holes in a wall. The city also looks like it's been overrun by nature. With huge vines spiraling around tall buildings and smaller vines hanging from the ceiling. It all looks very aesthetically pleasing even from up close.
Interiors are also nicely furnished with many secrets in them. They are fun and dangerous to navigate through, as some stairways are collapsed, and climbing vine overgrowth to the top of a skyscraper is always a nerveracking experience. You can also access an abandoned underground subway system that can take you from one side of the map, to another.
When it came to the first Survival Games, gameplay elements were top-notch. The whole map made you feel vulnerable and navigating it felt fluid. The Survival Games 2 takes everything the first one did right, and ups it. The map makes you feel more vulnerable than ever because of the crunbling skyscrapers you have to navigate, and the dimly lit interiors. If you're playing on a higher difficulty setting, getting food may be a problem as it can sometimes be hard to find depending on where you are in the map. Also, the map it big, so when battling with only a couple players, gampelay may get stale. But still, those are minor complaint compared to everything the Survival Games 2 gets right.
From the massive skyscraping towers, to the compact urban settings, the Survival Games 2 is a map that both delights the eye and makes a for a fun experience for playing with friends or a server. It entices the player to come and enjoy its post-apocalyptic playground.
