What is up, my fellow Crafters. Today I would like to talk about Factions. I am a decent Faction player, good at TNT Cannons(spent many hours researching on better ways to blow stuff up), and since my last raid, I’ve been wondering about Faction bases’ defences. Every time I raid, I see the same mistakes, corner cannon-able, sand-stacking enabled, Wither penetration. So I decided to make this guide relating to the Colossus, my base on the server which has not been raided in around 4 months.

6 Defences of a Faction’s base:

1. Bedrock/Obsidian Skeleton

What is necessary about this? Why is this important? Every good base is made impenetrable from TNT Cannons or Creeper Eggs. Your Faction server would most likely enable bedrock/obsidian breaking, but making it as hard as possible, if not impossible for your assailants to break through is what makes the base a good base. TNT Cannons hold the most responsibilities on breaking through bases, everybody uses them. They can come in hybrid forms, block projectile, standard TNT-launch or firework cannons. Which brings us to the next point.

2. Water Walls/Lava Walls + Half Slabs

Water/Lava negates TNT damage completely in vanilla Minecraft, but highly unlikely in Factions. However, it does reduce explosive damage by a percentage, so Creeper Eggs will be ineffective. If the TNT is from a timed cannon, nothing much can be done about reducing damage. However if the cannon is a brunt payload cannon, sand stacking would be necessary for the TNT to land on and explode. Half Slabs break the sand as they are not a full block, lay them out under the water and on top of the base.

3. Cobble/Stone Skins

Make a core, but surround it. The Obsidian/Bedrock is the skeleton, but the Cobble/Stone can be the skin. Having 3 layers surrounding your base with interlaying water will make raiding VERY hard, as TNT cannon would have to be aimed precisely through the holes and hit the skeleton. This also certainly destroys the possibility of sand stacking.

4. Underside Busting Protection

Protect your underside! If you spend all that time protecting the sides but leave your underneath right open, someone can just firework it and be in, simple and efficient. One good way to protect your underside is to put water. Down-flowing water negates the force of the projectile TNT, so hardly any TNT will get there. Extra paranoia can be sated by making double layers of Obsidian/Bedrock.

5. Internal Defence

Too many Faction bases have been lost without a fight. Even if your enemies manage to bust into the base, at least have them die trying! Or reward them with a payload of TNT that obliterates all the chests and spawners. One simple way is to rig your place with TNT that can be activated with a button, so if you’re online, press it and the whole place blow itself to bits. Or change it so that ONE chest is trapped, and make it real obvious and attractive, and rig it to TNT so if it is EVER opened, it activates a few hundred blocks of those explosive things and turn the place nonexistent.

6. Wither Proofing

The hardest part of it all is to form a Wither-proof base. As it is, the Wither-boss breaks all blocks save bedrock, so unless you construct an ENTIRE bedrock base, it is impossible to guard against a determined Witherer. However, you can certainly make their jobs harder. Make bases with criss-crossing pillars of obsidian scattered throughout the outsides of your base, or a FULL wall of obsidian WITHOUT water. This will disable water-climbing/luring of the Wither save the ‘fly’ command. Thus, they’ll have to TNT-Cannon through the obsidian BEFORE being able to Wither your base. Leave 2-3 block gaps between your wall layers and scatter obsidian/bedrock pillars. Bedrock will form a cage, trapping the Wither behind it, and obsidian will hinder it’s progress and possibly confuse the player or at least make it harder for them to navigate. Finally, thicken your base walls. That always help, be it Wither or Cannons.

And that’s it! This base would be almost impenetrable, and certainly discourage many raiders after they see the defences. I know it’s a resource burner, but it’s better than building multiple bases that keep getting raided over and over again. Finally, I hope you guys can join me on the Factions server, its CosmicPvP, the IP is play.cosmicpvp.me, and it’s the Dungeon Planet. I’ll see you guys there.
