Skylord Ryithen looked out from the bridge. The expanse of the runway stretched out before him, smaller zeppelins mounted on the deck shaking with the power of the carriers engines. He looked to the three destroyers escorting the carrier, and he felt a sudden unease.
Suddenly, his thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Skycaptain Unterias moving up beside him.
'My lord, we have lost contact with group A' The captain said, voice shaking with unease 'And group B has gone down.'
'Send rescue teams to group B' replied the Skylord. 'We must get to Veridas before it is too late'
'But sir...' the captain started.
'No buts.' The Skylord interrupted 'We have to get our cargo to Veridas'
'Yes sir.' the captain replied begrudgingly, as Skylord Ryithen turned and looked down the runway yet again.
As he looked, he noticed a glint on the horizon. He instantly snatched into the radio, and barked to the destroyers 'Do you see that?'
'What?' the group leader asked.
'That glint on the horizon' he replied.
By now, there were more than one, there were about five or six.
'I see them' said the group leader 'But what are th..'
The leaders conversation was struck short as the glints, a missile salvo, impacted the bridge of the destroyer.
Instantly, the red lights adorning the carrier flashed over and over, and the Skylord seized the PA system
'All gunners report to gunnery bay! All pilots gear up and load into zeppelins!' he shouted urgently 'The shadow of might is down!'
He looked left as a large cruiser pulled up alongside, and as a cannon blast almost took out the precious cargo.
He seized the PA system, and yelled three words.
'FIRE AT WILL!'
The cruiser reeled as thirteen explosions broke out, and tipped, shedding its ammo and crew, and capsizing.
Suddenly, the guns fired again, igniting the balloon and sending it plummeting to its doom.
By now, several tugs had launched from the ship, and they swarmed towards an enemy Assault craft intent of taking out one of the friendly destroyers. They weren't going to do any damage, but a lucky shot Detonated its ammo rack, sending chunks of metal and wood spinning out of the blazing hulk.
As soon as it looked like the battle may be won, a huge 'floating fortress' swung right into one of the destroyers, demolishing it and two escorts.
Immediately, the captain yelped into the pa system 'Concentrate fire!'
Thirteen guns fired, and not a bit of damage was done.Then the fortress fired. Most of its shots missed, but three hit the landing bay, inflicting massive damage, and the carrier shuddered violently.
In the chaos, the Skylord failed to notice the upper deck opening, and just as the fortress was about to fire, a huge beam shot from the deck, and split its bridge in half. The Skylord looked to the deck, and saw the captain, sitting in the command pod of the precious cargo, a huge MMX20V Railgun.
And so the battle of Adravas was won, but at a cost. The destroyers Shadow Of Might and Bearer Of faith had been destroyed, along with 23 escorts, and over 13000 crewmen. This battle serves as a grim reminder to the horrors of the Skywar, and eventually, the Railgun made it to Veridas where it still sits today, ready to defend honor and glory.
