This may be the most used building in all of Fuga. It also happens to be one of the pipe ridden place that will be built.

Staring off the newly build road, we lay a simple border wall. This helps us outline where the building should go. Unfortunately, there are a lot of pipes in this building and they have to stay relatively exposed.

The basic idea is that a macerator turns 1 ore into 2 dust. Then the smelter smelts 2 dust into 2 ingots. Basically giving you 2 ingots for every 1 ore that you mine. However, it only works for some ores. Also you don't want to have to figure out which ones every time you stop off. You want to just dump your inventory and move on. That means, from time to time, non-smeltables will make their way into the auto smelter. It needs to handle this with grace.

Well back to building. I think in trying to make the autosmelter more compact I made it worse. However, I really don't have the resources to risk picking up the machines, so thats where they will stay.

Well it works, but it's ugly. I will explain in a bit, but thats the basic size of the thing. However I think we can clean it up a tiny bit. Remember that the pipes need to stay exposed. This is so that you can quickly change the filters on the diamond pipes and change what gets smelted and what gets macerated.

With the pipes in a slightly less unsightly configuration the auto smelter is complete. The raw ores go into the chest on the left, then are routed to either the macerator, the furnace, or if it's not an ore that has been setup to the chest on the right. Dust from the macerator goes into the furnace. Finished ores end up as ingots the chest on the right, along with anything the auto-smelter doesn't know how to handle.

Following the flow of items is a bit like a child's maze place mat at your favorite diner, but basicly the whole thing runs via diamond pipes to filter the right items to the right machines. The hoppers provide a bit of a buffer to each of the machines, and overflow re-enters the system just after the chest on the left.

It does take quite some time to run through a full inventory of ores, but you don't actually have to do anything.

From the outside the building is quite ugly, with luck, this will be the last ugly building to go up. Probably not though.
