Griefing - Why you shouldn't do it

A griefer is a player in a multiplayer video game who deliberately irritates and harasses other players.

You might say "Well, servers should have proper protection against griefers."

I'd say not necessarily, I think the players should be the ones thinking about what they are doing. It doesn't just frustrate the person who made the building/art/creation but the Server owner has to put up with an ugly destroyed building. 

I don't see the point in greifing. It maybe funny but I see it as a different type of cyber-bullying/bullying.
A majority of servers don't allow griefing while most don't mainly the PvP servers allow it. 

If it's allowed I don't see a problem with it but doing it when it's not allowed is really stupid. 
Why can't people just follow the rules and have a good time that way? 

Greifers - Think about it. What if someone was to grief your creations that took you time and effort? You wouldn't be too happy about it. 

People that are victims of griefing - Just move on and build something else... If they continue to grief alert the server staff or move to a new server. Griefers tend to find it more fun when people scream with caps lock on in chat.

If you can't handle griefers I'd suggest a private server with a couple of trusted friends or play Single Player.

When creating a server i prefer to put in a plugin (i forgot the name) that makes it so if you didnt place the block you cant break it. Not even ops can break em (configurable i think)

I agree but some servers go way too overkill like some servers won't even allow admins to fly they say "(admin) was kicked for fly hacking and some have a thing were they put spawn protection on people's buildings 1000 blocks away. But to all other things I agree

Wtf Guys plugins like coreprotect/logblock exist you can rollback and ban.You guys cry over a small wood house.I had to deal with heavy griefs/hackers they use worldedit thats proper griefing.Anyways i dealt with the griefs easily.

Griefing with blocks is bad enough. But griefing with spawn eggs is just horrible. Basicly your crashing every player`s minecraft and they lose all they`re hard work

Agreed. You're gonna have a nightmare of that every night, you'll always think of it. Just like people hacking your premium accounts, you will always think of it every night and you will always worry. It happened to me so every time it's night I think of hackers hacking my account, so don't be with random people.

If you wanna team in MCSG, just team with your friends in real life, don't add people in skype if u don't know them in real life, they aren't trusted and you will fight with each other one day, and they will think of hacking your account. Mojang should be protecting the accounts and not letting hackers hack it, you'll be scared every night :O So beware

I am a griefer. But only on servers that allow it. I also love griefing creative custom maps with TNT after I'm finished with them XD for example FVDisco's epic redstone stuff. On this epic griefing PvP factions server me and this other guy were awesome griefers, and we weren't even noticed :P.

So this is the only place i cansay anything about how you deleted my blame paril post i find what you did ridiculous the reason being is because paril said i could and it would be ok so mess up on your part D: so whatever hope you have fun and what i did was not spam if it was spam it would be something even stupid than that, i guess? delete this after reading D: hope you have a nice day with destroying others hopes...

If someone destroyed my creations, then I would be pretty angry, and depressed because I worked really hard on them. If someone destroyed a house I built in a video game, I would be alright about it, I don't really care.

The basics of griefing are destroying someone's virtual house in a video game. If you do something like that in real life, you'll get thrown in jail. If you were talking about setting me on fire in Minecraft, it's not so bad, I lose all my virtual stuff, and die quickly, and go do something else. If you were talking about that in real life, you have problems, because everyone with a brain knows that fire is the worst way to die. And no, it's not quick in real life. It takes a hell of a lot more than 10 seconds, and if you want a hint of how sick and twisted you'd have to be to do that: there is no red flash every half second when someone is burning to death

The essence of griefing is something that has no point to it. Why would you go and destroy someones house? Because it's "fun?" Is it because you have no idea of how to build a decent build. You have no right to go over and destroy something that would have taken time to build. If you want to grief something, make a lego house and then knock it over. Simple as that.

I'm not flipping out. Your observation kind of makes you sound like a 7 year old troll. I was stating a few points. I'm not "butt hurt," I'm simply making a few statements, you should learn your stuff first before acting like you know all. Griefers have nothing better to do. Just putting that out there for reference. You are clearly just a bad voice of reason for telling people to get angry at someone for doing something bad at said person in a video game followed by a series of immature death threats, that are responded by said griefer laughing about it for the next couple of hours, because said victim said something horrible like that over a video game. In other words, you really handle griefers badly, and you are telling other people to handle them in the same way, resulting in the griefers winning. Sorry to sit on your pride bud, but whining about it immaturely doesn't solve anything that involves people on the internet. So really, you are the one who sounds like a 7 year old.

I'm not angry, I'm just saying that your logic for griefing is pretty bad. You want to laugh at someone, go onto twitter and search up someone famous and troll them. If you have to go to a video game and laugh at someone that you wouldn't laugh at in public, just don't do it. Would you come up to me and laugh at me, someone who you don't personally know? If you say no, you are simply weak. But your a griefer, and it just so happens that your always the winner in this situation. So your answer is obviously going to be "Of course I would, because I'm big and tough." If you wouldn't say something to someone's face, don't say it at all.

you know what you're right we just move on. some people on youtube made a video griefing the home base of a faction i was in but i left b4 they destroyed it. the people kept saying oh he'll raging and be so ppissed off. when i saw the video i was like HAHAHAHA jokes on them i left that shack so..... :troll: on them

Kindof agreeing, you pay for a game thats like 30$, you should be able to do what you want in it when playing with other people
Or you can just play on single player.  But think about it, griefers are making it so that people want to smash their computers because they payed for a game and they get their buildings destroyed, once i went ballistic over a griever, he said "Ok ill wont grief you again!!" i whipped out /ban

The reasons why griefers suck:


People work hard to make their buildings and some people like Team AvO Or any other people come on that server and destroy the players hard work, it's just not right


What i think mojang should do


I think that ban reports should be sent to mojang so that they can see what the person was doing, so that mojang could possibly ban them.


Yes i know it's just a game but it could cause huge anger, happened to be once.  I told the owner and he banned him, if mojang can see ban reports.  They should be able to ban the griefers account.

No. Griefers pay for the game too you know. In fact, griefers like aVo actually pay more money, so they can get alt accounts, so Mojang would never ban them. And when I want to build something that I don't want to be destroyed, I do it in this wonderful invention called SINGLEPLAYER. What I'm saying is, when you build on a server, build at your own risk.
