Advertising The most important part of owning a successful server, advertising. Remember don't be that guy who goes onto a random server and advertises there's! Google "Minecraft Server List" and post yours there. But if that fails and you need players and you must advertise on other servers don't do it this way: "Yo, com on dis servr its da beast my.server.example plz" Do it like this "Hello Join This Server For The Funnest Time Of Your Life myserver.example"

Factions/Survival Alright I know its a classic server gamemode and there are thousands of these types of servers out there, so how are you going to stand out to others? First you must have a solid server, which means a well built spawn and staff (A youtuber helps too). With a factions server you need something no one else has a custom plugin... Prison This is the server that is more addicting than flappy bird, But it must be properly assembled to be successful. First off you need the basics and then some including unique pvp plugins, custom enchants and more
Hub/MinigameI'm here to help not shoot down your dreams but I know for a fact that you won't succeed with this one, why would people play on your server when there is hypixel or mineplex? But if you must own this type of servers some guidelines are:

• Have custom minigames
  
• Let donors have special perks (fly in hub, hats, etc.)
  
• Have very little staff (if only staff are playing players will soon be bored
