Before you ask, no. This isn't a blog about the PMC diamonds. I'm talking about ACTUAL diamonds in Minecraft.
For this test, I decided to measure how many blocks a player travels before a diamond is either A) Lost in some way, or B) Crafted into a tool, which breaks.
Settings for this test: Difficulty - Peaceful. Cheats - On (so I could spawn in the items).
So, for this test I created a new world and spawned in an iron pickaxe , 64 logs (which most miners have when they mine), and 3 diamond ore. I placed the ore in front of me at spawn and then mined it (without moving, mind you.) This was point A in the investigation, the "0 meters, diamond in possession" point. Spotting a village nearby, I ran to it (which would be my supposed "house") and crafted a workbench. Total meters traveled so far: 31.97 meters.
At the workbench, I crafted the most essential tool of most miners; The diamond pickaxe. Of course, this has 1562 uses, so I made the assumption that there would be another 1562 meters added to the total.
Having a pickaxe, I decided I would go mining like I was supposed to. I went looking for a cave and, sure enough, I found one almost .6 kilometers away (counting by walking distance). The total meters traveled at that point was 977.19 meters.
Do you think I should continue in the name of science? Please let me know!
