It's confrimed that it is going to work kind of like Steam. You are going to have the ID, which is your original username, and then your nickname or username. Let's say you set your username to "ThatGuy" and your original name, or ID is "ThisGuy". When you join a server, the console identifies the ID, but still shows the name as the nickname, if someone bans "ThatGuy", then the console relates "ThatGuy" to "ThisGuy" and thus, bans the ID, not the nickname.

I understand your idea, but to be honest with you. I think that your idea could work, it's not safe. I know a friend who talked a bunch of crap to others on a server just to screw with them, well the next day his account got hacked and his password and email was changed. So if people still have access to see your actual username like that it would still put your account out there.

I agree! I can't wait until the update is finally pushed out, but I just want account security to be #1. I think something that could work better is if you changed it so it added a command in servers where you could ban the person by there nickname, but it would really just ban there ip altogether. Either way, whatever we say, it isn't like Mojang ever reads these blog posts or anything.
