Jealously........ it's everywhere! Even on PMC! It's got to stop!

I often see on the chat or the forums, players envying those higher-leveled, popular people who easily get onto the popular reel with every one of their posts. For example:

"I like disco, but he's toooo good. I wish I could be level 99 like him!" ~ Anonymous or "Wow Leostereo did it again with his XXXXX skin! 100 diamonds already! I wish I had that many..." ~Anonymous

Well, you can't blame them for being so pro. Get this clear: everyone starts somewhere. You may not be able to imagine it, but even disco or inHaze was a level 1 "noob" at some point (no offence guys!). You have to work toward any goal, including being popular like disco; you can't just sit there being mad at them for "stealing your place on the popular reel" or something like that.

"How do I become popular?" you ask.

Well, firstly, you can't go around blaming those higher leveled people. Instead, just view them as a "player to beat" and role-model or set their level as a personal goal for yourself. For instance:

"Oh okay, so I'm level 13. I want to be level 20, so I'll use XXXXXXX (who is level 20+) as a 'role-model' for myself and work toward matching him/her. I like XXXXXXX's posts and I want to use their good quality standards as a goal for myself" ~Anonymous

You could also view them as a more experienced person than you; you could ask them for advice or browse blogs (like this one) to learn how to improve your work. For example, if you are a skinner (a person who makes skins), you could ask someone like DinowCookie or Studnicky, who make better skins than you. They could give you advice on how to shade your skins, etc. Who knows? You may eventually become better than them!

Second of all, you shouldn't focus on getting exp or diamonds. Don't say things like:

Diamond if you agree
Diamond for more
Diamond for next part early
Diamond if you downloaded
Diamond if you don't want to die (e.g. threats)

Instead, say diamond if you liked it or diamond if you enjoyed it.

This way, if you make really good quality work, you can get plenty of diamonds and possibly get onto the popular reel (also my third point). Additionally, make sure your stuff isn't slapdash junk made in a few minutes. Really spend time and effort when making your posts, like I am doing right now as I type this. Even if the stuff you make isn't the best, it would still be considerably better if you spend time and effort on your work.

Fourth, you may want to have some things in common with the people who you want subscribed to you, though you don't have to be. For instance, you may want to be a PVPer if your making HG (hunger games) maps, and maybe even play with some of your subscribers once in a while. You might gain popularity, and the subscribers you play with will like you even more.

Fifth of all, you should always view comments people give on your posts. Don't slash back at people who give negative comments: either they are haters (you'll know if all other comments are good or if this hater gets replied with negative comments), or they really think that your work isn't good enough. Take the latter seriously. Instead of deleting the comment or replying in an argumentative way, just ask them why they don't like it.

The answer will probably be along the lines of "this part isn't good" or "that section needs improvement" or "you clearly didn't spend much time or effort on this. This is spam / junk." Take their advice. Improve. Do better on your next project, skin, etc. Don't criticize them for criticizing your work. Only do that if they are haters with no reason to hate.

On the other hand, if you get positive feedback, reply with positive feedback. This way, everyone is happy, and you benefit from 1 exp per comment on your own posts as well.

That also leads to my sixth point, experience. This should be more of a side goal and you shouldn't focus on it too much. However, the more experience you get, the better a first glance people will get when looking at your profile. As long as you upload good quality stuff, you can level up quickly. Here are the specifics in exp:

1 view = 1 exp
1 comment = 1exp
1 download = 2 exp
1 diamond = 5 exp
1 favorite = 10 exp
1 subscriber = 0 exp (but they are worth much more)

(Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Although subscribers don't directly give you experience, they still benefit you a lot. The number if subscribers tells people how popular you are. For example, disco has 11000+ subscribers, while I only have 3. This clearly shows the popularity difference here. When people subscribe, they probably like your work. Since they like your work, they will probably support it every time you post a new project, texture pack, etc. So, don't underestimate the awesomeness of your subscribers!

My seventh point is advertising. If you can't get onto the popular reel, you can still advertise in chat every 15 minutes. I did this for my "crazy number man" skin quite a few times and i got 10 diamonds, 100 views, and 3 favorites, just from advertising. Do you see the effect advertising can give? However, don't abuse it either. People don't like players who spam on servers or the chat to get views. View advertising as an optional choice to get a slight boost.

Lastly, you should consider making new and different posts every once in a while. For example, if you are a builder, try skinning. Who knows? You may get really good at it and get even more popular through it. This way, you could get people who subscribe because of your good survival maps and others who subscribe for more skins.

Furthermore, your posts won't become trite, like Vareide's are becoming (e.g. his first and second survival games maps were a huge hit, but they eventually got less popular compared to the beginning ones. They still are super popular though!). Don't post the same type of thing over and over again. Don't make 10 survival islands in a row. Don't create 20 skins that are just variations of each other (e.g. pixel adjustments, different colors, different shading, etc.). Make different styled posts more often. It's okay to post a few similar things, but just make sure your subscribers are unsubscribing.

Do you know how to get popular now? If you do, good luck!

Please, if you liked my blog, diamond, favorite, comment and subscribe to me to help ME get popular :) Also tell me if this gets onto the popular reel, which it did :)
