Whats up guys,
This is Wisdom_man, but I also go by Nick. Im going to be sharing some of my three years of factions experience with you guys right here. This blog entry will be the same as my Forums post but I will soon be posting videos, tutorials, and everything else that can help YOUR factions experience. So, if you like this be sure to like/favorite/diamonds and remember to subscribe!

1. Base Placement
So, when you first start a server, where you build your base is SUPER important. You will have to keep in mind when picking a spot, where are potential enemies, is it defendable, how much labor will it take to complete your base, does it have resources, and will you enjoy living there?
A. First, you want to get far away from enemies and spawn. I recommend at least 1500 hundred blocks from everyone. At least, no other bases should show up when you type /f map (a command to show bases in the nearby vicinity). Your base should take quite some time to walk to and as you are walking to it, you should be gathering wood, food, seeds, and general resources. Remember, for your first day, hunger and mobs will be your biggest threat.
B. Secondly, you want a defendable place. On Kevile's server, I always go into a snowy biome and make my base at the top of the mountain. Mountains and snow are great because snow can cover traps you place on the ground and mountains are much easier to defend when your enemies have to climb up to you. Wherever you choose, It should be defendable. I would try to avoid jungles where you can't see enemies coming. Jungles and wide open fields are great, but in a field biome, remember that the cave systems are much more extensive and you may have to protect against people firing TNT at the bottom of your base through a cavern.
C. Next is how much labor will your base take to complete? Although its great to have a base underground, excavating enough ground is a total pain. This is where having a friend is great, my and one of my buddies always work together when starting as we can get a rudimentary base up in an hour. When worrying about labor, your base should have a platform where it can be built above ground safely, should be in a place with visibility so you don't have to worry about a mob or player sneaking up on you, and should have resources near by which leads me to my next point.
D. You need resources to build a base. Although its great to build you base atop a massive mountain, how will it feel having to walk for five minutes just to get wood, water, lava, and everything else you need? This is where its great to be nearby a jungle, as jungles will contain more passive mobs for you to kill and eat then any other biome and a large abundance of easily accessible wood. Not to mention the copious amounts of coco beans with which you can craft cookies!
E. Finally, your base should be fun to live in and, ideally, look pretty. Its great if you have lush surroundings and not just an empty desert. Be sure to enjoy where you live, or have a group of friends that you can teraform the landscape with.

2. The first day
So, now you have your spot. It is far away from other players, looks nice, has resources, and will be easy to build on. Now what? Now you must begin building. I recommend you start with cobble, however ugly it may be. Your first base should have a decoy base above ground and a hidden bunker below. Don't worry about protecting the lower one yet, it's just there to hide your goodies from raiders. Now, you should also claim your land and set your f home with the /f claim and /f sethome commands (may vary server to server, those are the ones Kevile uses). Be sure to claim your land BEFORE building so you know the boundaries of the chunks you own. Don't invite anyone to your faction yet and accept no teleports. You should now begin to gather resources, Wood first, then stone for stone tools. Make some furnaces and crafting tables as well as a few chests in your base. Next, prepare to go mining with the following: as much coal as you find on the surface, a crafting table, a furnace, two sets of stone tools, a stack of wood logs, food, and leather armor if you found it. Begin mining and after you are tired and have some resources, type /f home to return to base.

3. Building Your Faction
At this point, you should have a couple diamonds, a bunch of iron, a lot of coal, red stone, and pretty much every simple resource you need. I would recommend upgrading your tools, and doing three to four more long mining expeditions. Remember to mine at level 10 for highest diamond potential. Hopefully, by the time your done, you will have a set of diamond armor and tools. Now you should begin to build your base for real. Use cobble at first and build walls. Line your walls with water and build a few houses, a F home, and some rooms. Make sure it looks good so you keep any members that you interested. Most importantly, don't keep ANYTHING valuable in that base. All your good stuff should be kept in the first bunker you made before. Now, your base should be stable and nice, also rather big. I would recommend now inviting other members. Keep your faction small but strong and don't invite players that you heard anything bad about. Give each player their own house, and if your server supports it, give them ownership of that house so other players can't steal from them. Encourage mining amongst your members and lead by example, you can never have to many diamonds! Be sure to mine at least three obsidian so you can make an enchanting table as well.

4. Defenses
Before you interact with ANY other factions, you base should be very defendable. Ill briefly mention a few tactics and traps below.
1. The pitfall: there is nothing simpler than this. Dig random holes around your base that drop down 24 blocks or more and be sure the player lands on a hopper with a chest underneath, so you can gather the dead mans goods.
2. Regenerating walls: These are great if your server lets obsidian be destructible or its to hard to get obsidian. There are some superb youtube videos on how to make great walls that regenerate themselves, it pretty much relies on a cobble generator and pistons. If you know how to make one, GREAT. If not, search mine craft regenerating walls on youtube and you'll get some great tips.
3.TNT: I'm going to go ahead and say that TNT is my favorite part about mine craft. When using TNT for defense, don't build cannons unless you are an experienced player that knows how to use a 360 degree cannon. I recommend placing land mines that are activated by red stone. Don't have all the TNT rigged to one switch, but one switch per section. Be sure that below your land mine, you have a pit that players and mobs fall into. A great way to do this is to build 7by7 pit, and place your TNT right in the middle of that pit, directly below your surface cover. That way, When the TNT blows, it will take that entire section and anyone standing on it to the ground. Scatter cannons are great, there are some amazing tutorials on how to build them on youtube. If using TNT, the number one rule is make your explosions controlled and precise. If you blow up part of your wall or some of your red stone wiring, its game over for you.
4. Dispensers: I would recommend using dispensers all over your base. Place a dispenser down on the ground facing up. Fill it with potions or fire charges or whatever. Then put a block on top of that and a pressure plate on the block, when someone steps on the pressure plate, there hit. Dispensers are also great along the sides of your walls because they can shoot large amounts of stuff at your enemies.
Overall, be sure you have different kinds of defenses and they are all deadly. Moats, walls, and one way doors should be you bases foundation.

5. Faction Relations
By this point, you should be fairly well off. Your base is strong and defendable, but is by no measure done. You should have a handful of members and at least one mod if your server supports faction mods. In addition, you should have diamond tools for all faction members. Your next move will be to make allies. Be nice to the rich factions and get them on your side. Don't insult or get in the way of anyone yet. Make friends with the powerful, but be weary about showing them your base. The bunker that you made should also be upgraded at this point to be obsidian lined and tnt proof. It should be impenetrable and will now be your factions vault.

6. The Next Base Level
Now, you should have allies in addition to a strong foundation. Your base and riches should see an explosion in size and quality. I recommend long wood runs and mining expeditions, in addition to farm building and a stable food supply. You should become rich in a sense of the word and those resources should go directly to making your base impenetrable. Expanding your base underground is a great idea, but keep the underground part a secret from other players. When your see no flaws in your base, and you have traps surrounding it, more recruitment should occur and you should prepare for war.

7. Defensive battles
When you are attacked, you should first arm your members with some of your best items, depending on the enemy. You should use your traps first, sitting safely in your base while your faction members go out of the base while using invisibility potions and tell you what traps to use and talk about enemy movement. If the enemy begins to use TNT cannons, let them but try to set the projectile TNT on fire before they actually fire. If you can, place a TNT by their cannon with one of your invisible men and light it up. Don't leave your base unless your force is far superior then the enemies, your possessions are in pearl, or your traps are empty. When leaving, use invisibility potions to mask your name tag. Keep as many potions on your as you can, because they can be the key to victory. If you have the high ground, use your bow and do not go lower to your enemy. If somehow you build your base where the enemy has the high ground, do not approach them but hide behind barriers and try to hit them with your bow. It is best to get as many men in the field as you can, and just wreak havoc amongst enemy ranks. Your traps should have killed most of the men so you can make easy work of who is left.

8. Offensive battles
So, you have decided to attack someone. When you attack, make sure there is some reason behind it. Standing up for your honor, disliking an enemy, or wanting their stuff are all common reasons. I recommend attacking with TNT cannons discretely so the enemy will not see you. This is where invisibility potions again are amazing. When you fight the enemy, the first thing you should do is scope their base out. See if there are any strategic points you can capture such as tall trees, mountain tops, abandoned buildings, etc. Try to set up at least six TNT cannons all rigged to one button, using dispensers so they can fire without manually reloading. Soften their base up with TNT before approaching. Never announce your attack or identify yourselves. Be sure that faction is enemies before you enter their land. When you attack, fall like a storm and be quick. Potions of swiftness are awesome here. Attack factions with low power. If you have to make thirty kills to claim their land, it is unlikely that you will claim much but you can blow up chests.

9. The Aftermath
At this point, your base should be amazing and battle tested. You and your members should have destroyed a few factions and made some allies. You will now want to keep your faction members busy so they don't leave. Encourage private development of ones house and try to stay in a state of war so you have something to do. Mine often and stay rich. When you go to war, stay smart about it and always keep your power high. Don't fight if theres a risk of your land being claimed. Make a power structure in your faction with people who are in charge and people who are not. Recruit quickly and grow your ranks. If you follow these steps correctly, you are on your way to becoming great!

Thanks for reading guys, I know it was a little long. Anyways, tell me what you thought about it and like/favorite/diamond or whatever if you liked it! Also, check out Kevile's server, it will be amazing when its back online!
Thanks again,
Wisdom_man

Creeper in space, I play on Kevile's server, if you google Kevile its the top result. You can make a forums account and talk to everyone. Unfortunately, the server is currently updating to some really cool features but when its back up, you can definitely join me. I can send you a message through here or Kevile's faction. Same goes for anyone else that wants to join as well!

Really nice content! But can I make a suggestion? Try to make the background of the text default. Just so it's easier to read. For some reason (and this may just be for me) I find it hard on the eyes. But great work. Diamond.

Great blog. I don't personally like Faction/PVP but went on one the other day with friends and had a great time raiding by going through our portal then coming out in someones base cus they put their portal there and then realise it was the guy who killed us loads of times the day before....We set his base alight and raided everything. Best Time ever. To answer your question below Personally you should make more about different things to do with Minecraft. :) +Diamond

Madison, im going to ask you because you seem pretty smart about this. Should I continue the blog by editing this current one and making it longer or should I make more blog posts? Whats the best way to make the blog organized and centralized but also easy to navigate?
Thanks for your help.

I suggest making multiple blog posts because I think it would be cool like a series.
