How to make a Minecraft mod for forge 1.7.10 part 1

Programs needed:
  •          WinZip or WinRAR(recommended)
  •          Vim, IntelliJ, Netbeans, Emacs or Eclipse(Highly Recommended)
  •          Paint or Photoshop(recommended)
  •          Forge 1.7.10 or lower (this tutorial applies ONLY for 1.7)[Download the .zip file NOT the .jar]
  •          Java JRE AND Java JDK

I Know, you probably want to make mods for minecraft 1.8, but the forge version for that is still in beta. And I know, that’s A LOT of programs, but that’s why you came to this page right? Some programs such as WinRAR, Paint and Java JRE could already on your system, but check just in case. Now, once you have all these programs on your system, start these steps:
  1.       Go to this link. This is very important to do. Once you’ve download java JDK the PATH will not be set up. Follow the steps there.
  2.       Once this is done have the forge .zip file you downloaded extracted to anywhere. Then go ahead and open the folder. Copy the location: it should look a little similar to this depending on the forge version and where the folder is: C:\Users\User\Desktop\forge-1.7.2-10.12.2.1121-src. Once you’ve got that, open up cmd (command prompt), run as admin if necessary. Type cd C:\Users\User\Desktop\forge-1.7.2-10.12.2.1121-src or whatever the location you copy pasted was. Then type gradlew setupDecompWorkspace. Make no mistakes. It will begin to download gradlew. This may take some time. When it’s done, make sure there were no errors. If it gives you this error: Failed to build up with exception, it means you did not setup the PATH for Java JDK properly. When you make sure it downloaded without any errors, type gradlew Eclipse. If you are using a program other than Eclipse, replace it with that, e. g: gradlew Vim. If you are using Linux, instead of cmd, there’s a program called Terminal, use that. If you are using Mac, instead of typing gradlew directly, type ./gradlew  then the rest of the command. When that is done downloading, then you are ready to start modding!

Anyway, startup eclipse and it will ask you for a workspace; make sure to give it the forge folder. Paint and Photoshop will be used in later tutorials. Also, in these tutorials I’m using forge for 1.7.2, but forge 1.7.10 shouldn’t change it that much.
