Anyway, hey everyone, it's Myra with my first blog in a LOOONG time!! This one will be a TUTORIAL, about how to make the little pixel art people like the one I use for my profile avatar! You can make the full-body option like I show here, or you can crop it out and only use the head {like I did in my avatar}.
I use pixelartmaker.com to make my art, but you can use whatever program you like.
Alrighty, here we go!
Step 1: Make your palette.
You'll need one skin hue, four hair hues, two shirt hues, two pant hues, one eye color, and however many shoe hues as you want. {There's no eye color in the shown palette because I'll be repurposing the shirt color.}
Step 2: Make the head.
Make a 5x5 square of skin for the face, and add two dots one pixel away from the bottom to be the eyes. Make neck accordingly.
Step 3: Start the hair.
Outline the head, excluding the corners, with the darkest color of your hair palette. Extend hair as long as you want it, then fill the rest in.
Step 4: Finish the hair.
Fill in that ugly forehead with some more hair, in whatever design you like. Put a spot of the lightest color in the thickest part and shade outwards. Add some streaks in the bottom part of the hair.
Step 4: Make the body.
Put a 3-pixel piece of the lightest shirt color beneath the neck, and expand to 5 pixels below that. Make the shirt as long/short as you want. Color half of it dark shirt color and extend shadow as needed. Put a pixel of skin color at the end of each sleeve.
Step 5: Make the legs.
In the space between the hands, making them three pixels wide, extend the legs as far as you want in the lightest color. Color the middle "column" of pixels your darker pants color. {Knees are optional.}
Step 6: Make the feet.
This step is obviously pretty easy. On the bottom of the outer two "leg" pixels, place a dark shoe color pixel. Extend feet with a light shoe color pixel. You can change this to make boots or other shoes.
Optional Step 7: Make a background.
Using any color you want {I recommend using a color other than what's in the palette, unless you want your little person to blend in}, outline the whole body. Fill it out into a rectangle and you're done! {Shadow is optional.}
