Well, ever wondered why you are a great, helpful user but not a PMC moderator, this blog will explain it all.
We have over 10,000 active users on PMC, 4,000 of which would like to be moderators and 300 who are capable and mature enough to become a moderator. creeperCarole has created a post in the forums on how to become a mod. Even though Vrej has locked it due to many ruined chances, you still must do the majority of these things. First, I'll go through the different types of mods.
Chat Mod: The chat moderator is the lowest position of moderators in all of PMC. These people still have a very important job to do, keep the chat clean. The chat is the most susceptible place for flaming, spam and scams. The 16 mods (at time of submission being uploaded) have a very important job to do.
Forum Mod: The forum mod has not only the important duties of a chat mod but they must also clean out our forums of any unnecessary content. Flame wars might not happen as much in the forums but are seen by more people and can get much worse. The forum mods stop that.
Site Mod: The site mods are the most important mods (Except the big 3) in the whole of PMC. They take on the duties of the forum and chat moderators and they clean out the bad submissions in the site. These people have the ability to ban users as well. The site mods have heaps of crap to deal with so why not help them out and flag bad submissions.
1 massive way you can possibly become a moderator is simply by reporting things. On the forum, there are about 50 daily reports and 200 in the site. If the mods had to go around every single submission and remove them, they would be absolutely buggered. If you report them, the report goes to a mod and they will deal with the problem. Next time you get a message saying Removed Submission:, that is from either a moderator doing heaps of hard work or a user being very generous and reporting the bad stuff.
As PMC is growing, more mods are needed. But as we grow, more people want the position. If everyone on PMC was a mod, there would be flaming, a very empty lot of submissions and more. The PMC team chooses mods that they believe will not misuse their power and that will be a great help to the community.
