Hello everyone, Dayla here with yet another blog! This time I wanted to enlighten those who don't know about the "effect" command.
The effect command lets you add all sorts of wonderful potion effects to your character in-game! I'm going to go over how to set up the command, and then talk about a few of my favorites.
The format of the command is as follows: /effect [player] [effect ID] [seconds] [amplifier]
So let's say I wanted the effect of speed (with an ID of 1) for 60 seconds, and I wanted it to be slightly amplified. I would type "/effect Day_La_Cruz 1 60 2".
This process can be put into a command block as well. Start by giving yourself a command block with the command "/give [player] 137 1". this will give you a single command block. Once you place down the command block, type in the command "effect @p [effect ID] [seconds] [amplifier]". The "@p" tells the command block to give the effect tot he nearest player. Now simply deliver a redstone pulse to the command block (a button works great) and voila! You can have any effect at the push of a button :)
Now that you understand the command, you will need some effect ID's. The following are some of my favorites:
Speed, ID 1
Haste (Mine faster), ID 3
Strength (increases damage dealt with melee attacks), ID 5
Jump boost, ID 8
Resistance (reduces all incoming damage), ID 11
Invisibility, ID 14
Saturation, ID 23
And that, my friends, is the "effect command" explained the best I could! Now remember, cheats must be enabled for your world to use these commands. Also when using the command block, you have to be in creative mode to input a command.
Was this helpful? Should I make a tutorial on the "/enchant" command? Where did the word "dufflebag" originate? If you have feedback to give it is always appreciated!
