intro
i'd like to apologize for this post being slightly later then usual, life happens. nonetheless, this marks the start of our spooky mod reviews! this is the only mod i'll be reviewing this month that has actual jumpscares this month since i'm a pussy scaredy cat. hopefully the rest of the mods will still get you into the holiday spirit.
what is eyes in the darkness?
eyes in the darkness was a mod originally made for spookyjam 2018. it adds a mob that is simply eyes floating. if you lock eyes with it you shouldn't look away cause otherwise it will creep up on you. it can even jumpscare you if it gets you from behind. especially since they practically disappear near torches, which means they're even harder to find. thankfully if you look it directly in the eyes or get up in it's space it will disappear. the mod itself reminds me of the weeping angels from doctor who and i used to be scared of those in the lego dimensions game so you can trust that this mod put me on edge. it's a rather simple mod but it is still effective in adding a slight scare to your minecraft playthrough.

the atmosphere
the atmosphere this mod adds is fantastic. it will work great with other spooky mods since it only adds the one mob. just seeing the eyes in a dark forest or deep in a cave adds so much. then of course there's the jumpscare which i admit isn't terribly scary, and i'm saying this as someone who is very scared of jumpscares usually, but the scare still great. it will still catch you off guard more then once, i can almost guarantee it.
the customization
this is a rather minor thing but i still appreciate the creator for adding it. it's fairly easy to customize the mod for your own uses. for example you can turn of the jumpscares if needed. which works great if you just want the mod for the added addition of the eyes but don't need the stress on your heart of possibly being jumpscared.
dislikes
the sound
the eyes sound like small children giggling and i promise my distaste for this sound choice isn't me being scared of children, i'm not at all. it just gets annoying after a while and i feel like it could of been a little scarier. then again i've seen people theorize that the eyes are supposed to be the spirit of trick or treaters in which cause i understand the choice. nonetheless it is my only complaint about the mod.
final thoughts
eyes in the darkness is a very simple mod but it still manages to do what it intended very well. i highly recommend it to anyone wanting to make their minecraft playthrough have a spookier feel this season.
i plan to release a spooky modpack at the end of the month as long as i can get it working, which will include all the mods i've reviewed this month as well as some extra ones. so please look forward for that! anyways like, comment, and subscribe. and please have a good day, thank you for reading!
