Hello! This is my poem for the Life of a Snow Golem Blog Contest! I hope you all enjoy it.
What have I done wrong to deserve this?
It seems that fate has turned it’s back on me once again.
Although, this time I will not find salvation.
Here, I wander, alone again. I have no friends.
At least… not anymore.
Time seems to have stopped.
Steve has been gone for only a few weeks,
Yet… it feels like an eternity has passed.
I’m beginning to fear that he will not return.
For I am alone now. My one friend in the world has vanished.
And spring is beginning to return.
...
I remember when you found me.
I was only a small ball of crystalline snow at the time.
I had no hope for survival, but then you
Put me into a Jack O’ Lantern
From the previous Halloween.
It kept me safe from harm.
Like a suit of armor on a knight.
You helped me grow by giving me snow.
You even gave me eyes of coal so I could see the world.
I never dreamed that such beauty could have existed.
There are still so many wondrous things
That I wish I could have seen.
But I will never get that chance.
You even taught me how to throw snowballs
So I could keep you safe from harm.
And I knew you would also keep me safe.
...
But now… you’re gone.
And my time is almost up.
When I first saw you, I knew that you would always be there
To protect me. But it appears that I was wrong.
I suppose fate didn’t turn it’s back on me.
Soon I shall melt, back into the cold, unforgiving earth.
For this fate was inevitable.
My only regret is that I didn’t get the chance to tell you,
How much you mean to me.
You were like a brother to me,
And now my heart, along with my soul, will melt away,
For this is the end of my existence.
I will always cherish the time we spent together.
But my time in this world is soon to be ended.
Goodbye, my friend. Please don’t forget me when I am gone.
I ask that you remember only one thing.
Although I will not be here,
Remember that you will always be in my heart.
I pray that you will never let your love die.
I wish there was time for me to see you once more,
But time cruelly reaps the seconds away.
This is the end. I die.
And so, the life of the snow golem was ripped away by the icy hands of Death.
Steve returned, only to find a puddle of water and some coal where his friend had once stood.
