Hey PMC, this is another story I've written which i'd like to share with you all. I'm sure you've all had that experience where you're lost underground in Minecraft, but imagine what it'd be like if you couldn't just mine your way out.

Also, like all my stories i'll make the skin of the character (i'm also working on the skin of the character from "The Close") I hope you enjoy it :D

Lost

A faint whisper of wind carried the final words of a hundred lost souls through the bowels of an ancient cave. A tormented storm, a mere hundred metres above could not penetrate into the suffocating silence and utter darkness of the buried labyrinth, although from time to time the screams of a lost man would break the shroud of silence.

I cried out, the terror and anxiety beginning to close around my heart and tear down the mental haven I had created. I fell to my knees and clutched my head, my inner turmoil threatening to rip through my skull with every heartbeat. I thought back to earlier this morning when Io d fallen into the cave. My spiralling sense of panic as I realised I couldno t climb back out.

I was abruptly brought back to reality as something flapped past my head. I dropped my arms to my sides and let out a long and agonising breath. I breathed in and closed my mind from my tormenting thoughts and felt a painful lump form in my throat. I swallowed and felt a few tears run down my cheeks. I quickly dashed them away with the sleeve of my shirt. I felt a new sense of determination rise inside me and I stood up and bunched my fists, I was going to find a way out, or die knowing Io d tried.

I tried to remember which way would lead me back to the shallow part of the cave, but it was impossible. I had been down here for hours. I reached to my right and leant against the cold wall, pushed myself upright, and started to shuffle forwards. Walking was terrifying; each new step was a new mystery. Was I going to bump into a dead end? Or maybe step into the void above a chasm? I was jolted to reality every time I stepped down an unexpected decline, and I gripped the wall harder. I was surely never going to find a way out.

After walking for what seemed like forever I tripped over and hit the ground hard. I yelped as I felt the fingers in my left hand bend in the wrong direction as they broke under my weight and the unforgiving stone floor. I thrashed into an upright position and clutched my hand to my chest as a jagged shot of pain ripped through my arm. I cried out, louder this time and pressed my back firmly against the wall.

I stayed there for a short time sending prayers to God, not knowing whether he would hear me. After a short time the pain in my hand numbed and I realised I was exhausted. Eventually I closed my eyes and fell asleep to the deathly silence and erratic pain in my hand, too tired to carry on.

I woke up groggily to the sound of birdsong and the smell of wet grass. I opened my eyes and temporarily forgot where I was. I was harshly reminded when my hand sent a brutal flash of pain into my head and my eyes snapped open to see only darkness. My spirits plummeted and I angrily lashed out at the nothingness with my legs. Yet, there was something different but I couldno t quite lay my finger on it. I cocked my head to one side and listened carefully.

There it was again! The melodic sound of chirping birds. My eyes snapped open and I peered around me seeking out a clue to where they might be. I got to my feet and shuffled up a slight incline, possibly what I had fallen over before Io d fallen asleep. The incline was treacherous and small jagged rocks continually assaulted my legs.

Suddenly, as I rounded a corner I was blinded by a patch of light. My heart fluttered and I stopped dead and stared. It felt like somebody was driving daggers into my eyes but I had found it, a way out, a grass encrusted hole in the wall with all my life and happiness sitting just outside.

I chortled and staggered to the hole, my insides roaring like a victorious lion. I lay my torso out on the grass and flung my arms out like wings. The sunlight was warm and friendly after the tomblike cold of the cave. I lifted my head and looked out at the welcoming trees and the blue of the sky. I felt my heart tug towards them and I stood up, gripped the edge of the hole on either side, and pulled myself free.
