Hello, I know I have not been posting alot lately, I think i should come back with better stuff in the future. Recently I was looking at Minecraft news and found an article about a Minecraft convention for a scam. I watched/read the article and I was shocked at how abused the Minecraft name was. This is everything that happened at the convention "Meeting Of The Mines"
The Convention Photo
On the logo you will see sponsors, giveaways, contests and YouTube.
The three sponsors that were supposidly sponsors were Nickolodeon, Red Bull and a Video Game store in Orlando Florida. None of these companies were sponsors. At this point you could see this could be a scam by the way it looks.
The Giveaways
For the giveaways they promised 200 Minecraft Micro World Lego sets. None were given out. 10 Playstations were going to be given out, only 1 was. And this was the most ridiculous giveaway I've seen, in a convention. Everyone was running up to the stage to get some box that they had no idea what was in it. It was pens. Cheap, $1 pens. There was also a costume contest giveaway for $1,000 for the best costume. One guy did win but the check was Re-voked.
The YouTube Channel
In the convention, there was a contest and if you won, you got to join the child labor YouTube network. On the main website for the convention was a article on the YouTube thing. In it they said that you will become the new Minecraft YouTube star! They said you would become better than CaptainSparklez and iHascupquake. And on top of that, they said everyone in the convention would become you're biggest fan. On top of that, you would go on tour with the MITM staff to spread the popularity of your YouTube. The name of this youtube network was a picture of the Starcraft II logo, and the word Craft after Star, creating Star-Craft. The logo proofs it was a rip-off.
Shut Down Time
The begginging of the convention lasted for 2 hours until they decided to cancel the convention all together. During that they said if you wanted a refund you could send them an e-mail. For the people who used PayPal for paying had to go through alot of work to get their money back. No one so far has gotten their money back at all.
What? Another One!
At this moment Kevin Roman, the host of the convention is planning on hosting another one. The website for the tickets is not up, and I hope it doesn't come up again.
My Thoughts
My thoughts on this is I don't like it. I think going on tour holding a convention like that, would be like kidnapping. I still don't get why the host hasn't been arrested yet. I just hope this doesn't happen again. I only trust the Minecon convention held by Mojang.
Your Thoughts
In the comments, I'd like to know what you think about this whole thing and what could happen to insure this doesn't happen again.
Thanks
I do not own the video it was made by BebopVox of the Minecraft Monday Show.
