What I think minecraft needs is redstone currents that don't intersect, For instance you would be able to dye redstone blue and it would turn blue. Then it could be placed down by redstone and their paths would not intersect.

maybe even add blue,green,orange,etc. stone that you can mine, it would have the values of red stone it just wouldn't connect with different colors, it is kind of obvious what this would be used for but, you might be able to use the colors as a display.
