Hey guys Master G here with my all new review of the Game Need For Speed Rivals. This game came out in 2013 which was the prequel to Need For Speed Most Wanted. The 2 stories have nothing to do with each even though they are considered prequels. Some of you might remember when I posted the Review of NFS Most Wanted so this is the one after it, after posting this Review I’ll also be making a review of comparison between the two games and which one is better. So after playing this game I’ll probably play the new Need For Speed when it comes out on PC. Enough Discussion now for the review:

Story:

There are 2 stories because you can play as a Racer or Cop.

Racer:

You are this Racer called Zephyr (really cool name) who lives in Redview County and Races for freedom not to kill the public but just for freedom and fun. You progress through the story by doing the things on your speedwall. Throughout doing that the Cops try to wreck you and keep getting stronger, eventually they send in Supercar cops called F-8 and therefore racing as a driver and escaping from the cops is a lot harder. You keep progressing until you get to the final Hot-Pursuit race called Grand Tour which is a very long race that is literally a Grand Tour around the Island of Redview County. I honestly had to play it about 7 or 8 times because it is very difficult, trust me I’m used to very hard games and things. There is a lot more to the story but I won’t spoil too much for you guys ;)

 

Cop:

The Cop career has the same story but you’re playing as a cop. It is the same story but from a whole different point of view, you are this cop that is trying to bust all the racers in Redview County but Zephyr keeps inspiring more and more racers to race with freedom, just like as a Racer you have a Speedwall and you have to do those things to progress. In the last mission you have to bust Zephyr once and for all. There is a very easy cheat for this, you don’t have to get Gold, you can get Bronze and still clear the game, if you still want the Gold Medal on the Final game it is way easier since you unlocked the fastest car in the game and fastest car as a cop so you can bust Zephyr way easier.

 

 

Places and Locations:

Rivals has a very similar take to Hot Pursuit since the Map is very similar, there is no big City which was very disappointing. It is more a lot of Motorways or Highways and Interstates. You have a huge change of environments throughout the map like: Snowy, Desert, Grass, Lake and Bridge. There are a lot of great places to test your speed and test how fast you can go. I’m not going to list the places like I did in the Review for Most Wanted though.

 

Music:

Honestly the music in NFS Rivals was bad, there were some good ones but I think EA could’ve done better with the music in Rivals. Click here for a list of music in NFS Rivals.

 

Cars:

There are only 21 or 22 Cars, compared to other games that is a very small number of cars. Even though there are only that much there are more because Racer and Cop career have different cars. Honestly In my opinion the best car in the game is the Lamborgini Veneno, I might go as far as to say that this is my new favourite car. Then of course in Cop career it would be Hennessey Venom GT but overall the Lambo Veneno is my favourite car in the game.

Paint and Customization:

Rivals has a lot of Customization but compared to games like NFS Nitro the Customization would be very low but on the average of NFS games with Customization this one would be above average. You can pick your own car colour, wheel rim colour, and then you have some special designs and a colours for that. The car colour can be Matte, Metallic, Gloss or Satin. When you want to repair your car you go into a repair shop and repair yourself.

 

Upgrades and Pursuit Tech:

There are 5 upgrades for every car on every topic: Durability, Strength, Control, Acceleration and Speed. Everything costs SP which is like money but they are actually Speed Points which you earn for doing almost anything about driving. Note: You have no Upgrades on the Cop Career.

Pursuit Tech is basically like Add-ons to help you race/pursue or wreck cops/racers. Cops and Racers have different Pursuit Tech but some are the same. Here is the Racer of the Pursuit Tech you can get: Turbo, EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse), Jammer, ESF (Electrostatic Field), Shockwave or Stun Mine. Here is the Pursuit Tech you can get when you are a Cop: EMP, ESF, Roadblock, Helicopter, Shock Ram and Spike Strip.

 

Graphics:

It has very realistic Graphics and the whole game is very realistic, they made the crashes, damage, landscape, water and roads almost like in real life. If they ever put this Game in Oculus Rift I think it would be so realistic that you’d seriously think that you are driving the Supercar and Crashing.

 

Racers:

There are 4 types of Races for Racers: Original Races, Time Trials, Hot Pursuits and Interceptors. Races are well you know what Races are XD. Time Trials are well you know what they are as well XD. Hot Pursuits are Races but just with Cops chasing you as well and Interceptors is when you have to escape the cops but with limited time.

For Cops you have 4 types as well: Rapid Responses, Hot Pursuits and Interceptors. Hot Pursuits are a Time Trail but for Cops. Hot Pursuits is the same like for Racers but you have to bust all 3 or 4 of the racers. Interceptors are like for Racers but Vice Versa where you have to bust the Racer in a limited time.

 

I know that I never mentioned the whole way that you play and the things about Safehouses and Command Posts but I didn’t want to spoil too much of the game.

 

Anyway I’d have to rate this game 9.3/10, yes it gets less than Most Wanted but I won’t say why until I make the Comparison Blog ;)
