You know what ELSE I hate in the realm of Minecraft servers? MCBANS!
If you don't know, MCBans is a plugin for Minecraft servers. It's basically what server owners use when they are too lazy to hire moderators, or too worried that they will hire crappy ones. This sounds good right?
Just wait until you hear the PROBLEMS. I will say this in order of HOW often it happens. For starters, there's "Console." Console is a fake MCBans moderator who is really a computer. He somewhat-often hands out "Null" bans. Null means that they have no reason, and it was a glitch.
My second gripe is that, I'm not sure if this is true or not, but you can BUY your reputation back up. Nuff' Said. If you are trying to save Minecraft servers from trolls, griefers, and other abuse, then don't let those trolls come back by paying money!
Also, The moderators are abusive. They can be biased towards certain people, or make more of a situation than it is. The records also make more of a situation than it is. You could accidentally break 2 blocks at spawn, then MCBans says "Broke large, important part of spawn."
Next, it's the way they handle alternate accounts. I find it highly unfair that anyone should attempt to make a solution to alternate accounts. It would most likely hurt legit players more than greifers. This is the case with MCBans. They notify a server, and, sometimes, BAN THE PLAYER if you (Taken from MCBans Website:)
A) Share your account info with someone who also owns a Minecraft account and visit a MCBans protected server.
B) Log in to an MCBans protected server with multiple accounts from the same IP.
C) Connect to a MCBans protected server via a public WiFi hotspot or Mobile Internet.
A, I Don't have a problem with. B, Kids may share a computer and internet, but not a Minecraft account, or trolling accounts, but MCBans is pretty much built around being unforgiving, so Trolling Accounts fall flat. C,Public WiFi, some resorts and hotels have free WiFi that is public, and mobile internet is somewhat common.
Then, there's how unforgiving MCBans is. They don't give second chances. I can't say much more.
My final and most important gripe is that.....the idea of a "Global Ban Solution" just sickens me. If you get banned from a Minecraft server, you find another one. NOT WITH MCBANS! They have Global Bans. If you are banned from one MCBans server, you are banned from all of them. Also, greifing, to them, a small issue in my eyes, is a BIGGER ISSUE than Bullying and Raiding on non-raid servers to them. So, a bully still has a chance, but a minor troll that can be rolled back doesn't? That's wrong. But anyway, this causes alt accounts, and ban workarounds. Their Alternate Workarounds are also faulty. Global Bans are wrong. Even more wrong is that some are GLOBAL PERMABANS! A lot of servers use MCBans, Imagine being banned from THAT MANY servers.
Overall, MCBans is an AWFUL Ban Solution, and it's like what SecuROM is to Video Games.
