Hello again everyone I am going to talk about something that is special to me and that I enjoy doing.
The usual warning...
*I talk about what I want to talk about and I will express my opinions bluntly. Sorry if my bluntness offends you but as I said it's just my opinions.*

Roleplaying.

RP or RPG?

I'm going to go ahead and assume that you all didn't know there was a difference? Right? Ok.

First of all RP, (Role-Play) is when you act out a character with other RPers to make some sort of connection/story. Roleplay is done in many ways and forms and more importantly, in MANY games. Most people see Roleplaying as some sort of childish game, where someone can just go and 'escape into fairy land'. This is partly true. Roleplaying is an escape for some people, for me, personally? Yes it's an escape. I love to RP because I can become anyone and do ANYTHING. (Within the confines of the RP rules, of course. I'll get to that later.)

The other part of that statement is definitely not true. Roleplaying isn’t just for children to escape into an alternate world built in their imagination, it’s for everyone. World Of Warcraft is a prime example of a good Roleplaying world. They have dedicated servers in which people can roleplay to their hearts content, most of these people are adults. (Think before you judge.)
Anyway.

Now RPG IS essentially the same but with a few key differences. While RP is more imaginative, RPG is more action-orientated. For instance, and RPG Minecraft server will have classes and dungeons and quests, you get the point, while RP is an open world where you can do anything, and action isn’t a deciding factor. RPG is also less strict with the actual Roleplay part.
RP – Very strict, you are actually playing as your character
RPG – Not so strict, you are more like shaping the world around you and as I said, action orientated.

RP and RPG Rules

Some examples of each type of rules may help to clear up a little of what your probably confused about.

Rule Comparisons

PVP
RP – No

No PVP? Yes. That's right. Most, (Good) RP servers don't allow any kind of PVP whatsoever. Why is this?
It ruins the RP. Say I am roleplaying as a simple trader, who is trying to make his way in the world. Now running around killing someone for no reason wouldn’t fit in with my characters persona. On the other hand, maybe if I was some type of evil person, I would be allowed to kill people IF I had the other player’s permission to do so. (Most people won’t just let you kill their character off for no reason because (From experience) when you make a character, it becomes part of you. You worked hard on making him/her who he/she is.)
RPG – Yes
While PVP is not allowed in most RP servers, it is more encouraged in a RPG server (From what I have seen.) RPG servers are all about dungeons and questing and exploring, etc. So you don’t really form an attachment to your character as if you would if you were a RP. Also, there is the fact that most of your play time on an RPG is done in OOC, not IC. (Out Of Character and In Character.)
God Modding
This rule mostly applies to an RP server. What is god modding you ask? Well, when you write your character BIO, you choose such things as your history, appearance and if you go as in-depth as I do, your parents, house you lived in, fears, religious aspects and many more things. You are shaping a whole new person. God modding is when you put something like:
“Once I was a herald to the King himself and we established a coup to overthrow him and I became the new king”
To put it simply, god modding is giving you an unfair advantage over other players, whether it be meta-physical or with mods.

META-GAMING
Meta-gaming is a VERY important rule with RP servers. Meta-gaming is when your character knows something that he/she couldn't possibly know. For instance, walking right up to someone you, (Your character) has never met and instantly going, "Hi *name*." because you seen their name in the chat box, is meta. Hey haven't introduced themselves yet, so how could you possibly know their name? Meta is also when someone tells you something in OOC, and you take it IC.
(OOC) Me: My character is afraid of spiders
(IC) You: Did you hear Kinand is afraid of spiders? We should trick him....

Etc.

I'm not going to go through all the rules you should get the point now though.

In Conclusion

Yes, there is a difference between RPG. Any Factions server with MCMMO installed can be a 'RPG' server but they can not claim to be an RP server.
