All of you more than likely know that there are a ton of different types of servers out there, and new ones emerging every day, but one may ask, which is the best? In this article, I will break down the most popular types of server, with their characteristics, and give my opinion on them.
The Types Of Servers:
Economy- The players try and work their way to the top of some sort of economic Minecraft society, usually through jobs and selling things through an "admin shop"
SMP- This was previously the most common server, and is still commonamong servers with larger playerbases.The sole purpose of these servers is to play with friends, and to show off your building skills.
PvP- The player is in the survival game mode like the "Survival" server type, but this time PvP combat is enabled.
Faction- These servers are the most common among the small server. Players fight to gain power, which is the universal ability to gain and control land, and protect buildings or bases.
Economy- PvP economy servers are most similar to the real world. First, you try to make friends with everyone on the server to prevent getting killed, then you begin trying to build your empire in the economy of the server.
Arena Based- This is where all the "Survival Games" type PvP servers are mixed in, usually joined with bigger
servers over a cloud server. Players play short "games" and try to be the last one surviving. There are also
objective arena based games such as TF2 for Minecraft.
Prison- Probably one of the most underestimated types of servers. These servers are unique. The player starts as a lower class inmate, usually the "D" class, and try to make their way up to the "A" class, and eventually be freed.
Mini Games- These servers are usually really popular as well, they offer many different game types over a cloud. They usually don't have a survival or "building" world, but still seem to get very popular.
Creative- The player is either in the creative game mode, or is able to obtain blocks without working for them.
PlotMe- These are the most common creative servers. It allows players to claim plots that they can do whatever they want to do to them in creative mode. These server are also usually tied into cloud servers.
Freebuild- These servers are rare to come across mainly because nobody is interested in playing creative
multiplayer.
My Opinion:In my opinion, the best server types are the PvP economy servers, because it satisfies the people who want to kill, who want to build, and want to control people through an economy.
