Hello there and welcome to my guide. I hope you enjoy this and find help from it. It took me over 3 days to write the whole thing out, with breaks and such every now and then aswell as school etc. Thanks.
-Punctuation
You use punctuation marks to structure and organise your writing. The most common of these are the period (or full stop in British English), the comma, the exclamation mark, the question mark, the colon and semi-colon, the quote, the apostrophe, the hyphen and dash, and parentheses and brackets. Capital letters are also used to help us organise meaning and to structure the sense of our writing. You NEVER put a comma before "And"
You can quickly see why punctuation is important if you try and read this paragraph which has no punctuation at all:
Steve mined the coal diamonds gold and iron he had left in the mine earlier when his pickaxe broke he jumped down and placed a torch on the wall he was running out of torches and he decided to make another pickaxe from the diamonds he was excited as he placed the 3 diamonds and 2 sticks on the workbench and formed the pick
That went against every instinct in my body. Now, add some punctuation:
Steve mined the coal, diamonds, gold and iron he had left in the mine earlier, when his pickaxe broke. He jumped down and placed a torch on the wall, he was running out of torched and he decided to make another pickaxe from the diamonds. He was excited as he placed the 3 diamonds and 2 sticks on the workbench and formed the pick.
Much better, right?
-Capitalization
Now, im sure you are all shouting at the computer now saying "SHANE, WE KNOW THIS ALREADYZ OMAIGODZ" but alot of people i see are all "steve went to the cinema his friend carl had built out of obsidian and redstone on christmas eve, as a Planet Minecraft project ." So im going to cover it anyway just to be sure, because your going to get raged at if you dont have any grammar. The internet :P
Capitalization is used for a place, person, thing, occasion(NOT Birthdays!), the personal pronoun "I",Abbreviations like PMC and MC.Days of the week, months of the year, countries, languages, religions, titles(King Kevin, Dr.McDonald),trademarks, companies, organizations, monuments(The Eiffel Tower),names of vehicles, names of books, plays, poems, songs, movies and at the start of a sentence. Let me fix your sentence:
"Steve went to the Cinema his friend Carl had built out of obsidian and redstone on Christmas Eve, as a Planet Minecraft project." Much better.
In this stage, you plan what you are going to write. You choose a topic, identify your audience and purpose, brainstorm ideas, and organize information. Dont give up and go back to your mines, even if this step is boring, it is definitely worth it.
-Stage 2:Drafting
In this stage, you write your ideas in sentences and paragraphs. Follow your prewriting plan to write a first draft of your story. Once again, do not give up or the effort you have put in to stage 1 will go to waste!
-Stage 3:Revising
This stage is the first part of editing your writing. You may work by yourself or with a partner or group. Make changes that will improve your writing.
-Stage 4:Proofreading
In this stage, you finish your editing by polishing your work. Check for errors in grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation.Make a final copy of your composition.
-Stage 5:Publishing
Finally, you choose a way to present your work to an audience. You may want to add pictures.Read your work aloud. Whether its a planet minecraft blog or a blog anywhere else, have confidence in your work.
Thank you for reading this, even if it may be a TL;DR. I hope this helped you in some way or other.
