Here's the latest video of my progress on the upcoming Ships mod. This mod is turning to be very technically difficult to do. This new videoshows a slightly larger ship this time.Although now, the mod can correctly support ships with empty space below the water level! It still uses the paddle for navigation for now, but eventually I'll implement more interesting systems for propulsion that are suitable for larger ships.

Yeah! People seem pretty excited about the idea. I can't wait to get a beta build out there so people can try it out.

Your idea is damn good, that's why... I also have a WIP mod on MCF, but since the implementation is kinda hard, I haven't got in-game pics up yet... and nobody cares about it. Same applies for the texturepack... celebrated on here, ignored on MCF...
that's life...

I get the feeling the reader composition of the two communities is hugely different. I guess it pays to participate in both.

It's not ready for download yet. It's still a work in progress. When the mod is ready for release, I'll post a new mod page for it.

What's the mod compatibility to an extent? Like if I use Carpenter's Slopes Mod or Flan's Mod, would I still be able to get a nice, smooth, and functional environment? Also, remember that Buoyancy involves the balance, not just weight.

Yup, I'm completely ignoring the balance aspect of the buoyancy system. I don't want to deal with the rotation compositions (or quaternions for that matter) that would be needed to get the ship another two degrees of orientational freedom. Those extra degrees of freedom also makecollision calculations much much trickier. That's a headache I'll save for another day.

As for mod compatibility, "dumb" blocks should work just fine. Meaning, blocks that don't have any logic. And if they use the standard materials, the physics will even work about the way you'd expect. When blocks start thinking... that's when life gets messy for me.

I'm working now on getting chests to work on the ship. ie, a block with inventory, logic, and interaction with other entities. It's been far more difficult that I would have liked it to be, but I've got it mostly figured out now. If mod logic blocks behave in ways similar to vanilla logic blocks, they should work too. If the mod logic blocks do something new, then I'd probably have to handle compatibility specifically.
