- Never dig down right underneath where you are standing.
- Always play with stereo sound.
- Always bring food.
- Bring a stack of LOGS (not wood) with you when spelunking. You can find coal easy. It's trees that don't grow underground. And logs can be burnt into coal.
- A bucket of lava is good for lighting up deep caves. Lava will also expose and kill mobs (sssss)! (Unfortunately, as you may all know, the drops from the mobs can be destroyed...but seriously what are you gonna do with rotten flesh?)
- Low on health and food? Carrying lots of valuable rocks with you? Make a drop box for yourself. You can most likely find it later, if you happen to die. It's better to have all your stuff in one place, than for some (or all) of it to fall into lava.
- Redstone can make a good breadcrumb trail.
- Keep your sword on hand! (Yes, it sounds dumb, but you wouldn't believe how many times I didn't have a sword in my hotbar, and didn't have time to get it from my backpack! You can't beat down a wave of zombies with just your fists!)
