Now that Minecraft's EULA prohibits selling ranks even more than it used to, people might be even more inclined to think about what their rank names communicate. I honestly don't know how much thought server owners have given to their rank names, this is why I thought it would be interesting to write about what rank names can convey. I haven't played on many servers so I will throw out some reasons for rank names but I am interested to see what you all have seen also. How have server admins structured ranks and what did they convey?

Rank names can be used to convey:

a) Seniority: these are ranks that acknwledge your time played and they are earned regardless of activity on the server

b) Role play: these are ranks that indicate a player has done certain things in game in accordance to some established lore

c) Alignment: these are ranks that document loyalty/dedication to a certain server philosophy, faction, or respected behavior

d) Accomplishment: these are ranks that are merit based and indicate completion of certain tasks or consistent behavior

For example, my server has these ranks; they are an example of the Alignment structure, whereby people earn them based on helpful and pleasant behavior on the server https://mm.tt/470407808?t=9t3Y9er036

What are some interesting/unique/fun rank structures you've seen, or what and why do you use what you use on your server?
