Intro

We all know that at some point or another most Minecraft players are going to start up a server. It's a simple fact of life. However, most of the time those server's end up running straight into the ground after only a few days of being "setup" and released to the world.

The #1 reason people start up server is to become popular and in turn make a lot of money to keep the server up and to feed their spending habits. I'm here to help give you the secrets to becoming a very powerful, and very popular server not only for Planet Minecraft, but also for any other Minecraft based website.

Necessities

Spawn - When players first join a server, your spawn is the first thing that they're going to see. So, naturally you're going to need a butt-kicking spawn. Something that when players see it they'll say something along the lines of "Holy crap, nice spawn!!!" If you get a comment like that more than once, you know that you're doing something right.

Plugins - Plugins, plugins, plugins.... Plugins are the lifeblood of your server, without plugins you're server is going to crumble, and you'll have wasted money on a perfectly good server. Now don't take this the wrong way and just go jump into Bukkit.org and start downloading the first plugin you see. I'm not going to give you a long list of plugins to download, because if I did that then everyone would have the same server. But I will at least give you 3 of my personal favorites, which I feel are necessary for all servers.

(Shift and left click the blue words >.>)
#1 - Essentials
Essentials offers over 100 commands and features useful on just about every server.

#2 - World Edit

An easy-to-use in-game world editor for Minecraft

#3 - iConomy

A simple, and easy to use economic core.

Although great, these plugins alone will NOT make your server a hit. The first thing you need to do before choosing your own plugins, is to decide what you want to do with your server. For example, if you want a Real-Life simulation server, you could download a jobs plugin, an economy plugin such as iConomy, and then a plugin like Towny which allows you to claim entire towns for people. The only limit to the things you can achieve with plugins is your imagination.

Website - The last and certainly not least important thing needed for a successful server is a website. This is possibly one of the most challenging parts, but also one of the most rewarding. A lot of the people who are reading this will probably be on a tight budget when it comes to trivial things such as creating a Minecraft server, just read on.

But now it's time to get down to the nitty-gritty stuff. The first thing you need to hear, is that you're first website, will probably look like crap. But don't worry, as you become more experienced with these things it'll improve a lot over time. Just remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, which is your popular server.

People/players nowadays are looking for a sleek and simple website, not like this. You're going to need something that catches the viewer's attention because of how great it looks. You're going to need.... Enjin. Now, a lot of you are probably wondering "wtf us dis enjin?" Well it's the best thing that's ever happened to most of you. This website has everything that you'll need to run a successful Minecraft Server Website, from donation shop to forums.

You can find more info on Enjin here.

Thank you's and goodbye's!

Thank you very much for reading everyone and I hope everything worked out for you :)

Have a great day!

Ok you can stop reading now....

Seriously stahp.

Ok I'm just gonna go now.

- Peaceeeeee

I can't take all the credit, also, I'm not the owner, just Head-Admin. Though I did build a large part of what you see at the Hub. :)
