On your first day of minecraft you should mine some trees and get wood. Soon after make a crafting table. Then make an axe and chop more trees down. When you get enough wood, make a wooden pickaxe. Mine stone, and coal. Upgrade your pickaxe and mine iron ore and go back to your crafting table. Now you should make a house around your little crafting area.

Make a furnace and turn your iron ore into iron ingots. Make a new pickaxe and do more mining. You will probably need food so make a sword (any kind) and go kill some cows, chickens, or pigs.
