This blog needs all the support it can get for the contest, so if you like this mod idea, then please diamond, or favorite it. If you think of a way it could be even better, then please leave a comment, and if you just like stuff I make in general then you should Subscribe to me!

Also in a few days I will post artwork related to this mod, such as crafting recipes, and new items.

Are you tired of building a dam or finding a source of water to grow sugarcane, turn lava into obsidian, and build mob grinders? Do you wish there was a better way to move water without needing to waste steel on buckets? How about getting certain color dyes for wool. It makes it quite a chore to create anything colorful without creative mode, so whether you like to mine, and don't want to scour the surface for materials all the time, need improved weapons/healing implements for PvP, or just want to see the world look even more beautiful, this mod idea would provide a possible solution for all these problems and many more!

My idea for this contest is a five part mod I call-

The Gardeners Mod!

~~~~~~~An Idea For The Minedea Blog Contest~~~~~~~
Part 1: A full spectrum of new flowers that can be grown; Red, orange, and yellow have always been the easiest dyes to get because any other dye requires killing squids and skeletons, mining Lapis Lazurai, cooking cactus, or scouring the jungles. This mod would have a flower for each primary color.
That would include Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Brown, White, and
Black. Also if two primary color seeds are planted in the same spot, the flower that is grown will be the secondary color that the two primaries make.
The secondary colors would include Orange, Lime, Cyan, Light Blue, Purple, Pink, and Grey.
This makes any dye a renewable, and easily accesible material, so that making colorful builds in survival mode is much more easily done.
Growth Cycle Info
The growth cycle of each flower would consist of 4 phases, each of which takes 1-2mins, but goes twice as fast if next to water, and requires the same light level as a sapling, but only 1 block of space.
*First phase would be the seed phase, where it would simply look like a seed in the ground. Primary color seeds can be mixed at this phase to make secondary colored flowers. should the flower be hit now it will destroy the seeds planted, and drop nothing.
*Second phase would be the sapling phase, the flower is short with only one leaf, and a small bud at the top. Should the flower be hit now it will only drop the seeds planted there.
*Third phase is the bud phase the rest of the leaves grow, and the bud at the top becomes full size, with a tiny bit of the flowers color peeking through. Should the flower be hit now it drops the full seed amount, but no dye.
*Finally the fourth phase where the bud blooms, and the flower becomes ready to be hit for seeds and dye.
Click to reveal
Every flower would drop 2-4 units of dye, and 2-3 seeds. The secondary flowers will drop at least 1 of each of the primary seeds. There are no secondary seeds, making the secondary flowers slightly more rare than the primaries. The flowers can also be picked with the shears to make the flower plantable, and craftable.
When a world is spawned, flowers are found looking like any of phases 2-4, but are considered in the game as a full flower when hit. This gives natural flowers a variety in appearance, and makes the world even more beautiful!
To make up for the fact that people might wind up with a lot of unused seeds, any flower seed can be cooked in a furnace to make popcorn. Each unit of popcorn cooks 4x faster than other cooked items, and each one fills half a hunger unit. It takes no time to eat popcorn either, just click, and one is eaten instantly.
Part 2: The Tiki Torch of +3 Plant Growing Light;
One of the main problems with growing anything is the issue of having enough light. Torches make it possible to grow stuff at night, but it's range is very limited. Glowstone has a greater range, but it's a hassle to mine. The tiki torch would be crafted by putting 1 torch above two sticks, similar to tool crafting. It's specifically designed to make gardening more efficient, and more fruitful!
Click to reveal
This torch can be placed on any solid surface, but not on walls. It's three blocks tall, and gives off the same amount of light as a normal torch, but applies to all plant life as level 15 light within a 5x5x5 cube area surrounding the top space of the tiki torch, and the tiki torch itself counts as empty space to saplings, so saplings can grow right next to it without the torch taking up it's growing space. Normally a torch will only let plants grow within a 2x2 square space around it. This allows a garden to grow at night, or underground with less use of regular torches, saving you garden space and coal, and it's even theoretically possible to create a two layered farm with a small layer that has 3 blocks of space for pumpkins, melons, and flowers, and a bigger layer on top for trees. That means more plants, and better harvesting!
Part 3: Flower Infused Arrows
> By Placing a picked flower below an arrow in the crafting menu, the arrow becomes a Flower Arrow. These arrows will look like they have a flower at the end of them instead of feathers, and they will have some special perk compared to regular arrows. This allows an archer to combat different situations with the perfect tool!
Any arrow that can heal or cure poison can be used on yourself by holding the arrow, and holding right click for 2 seconds. When using your bow, whichever arrows are closest to the top left corner of your inventory will be used automatically, followed by the spaces next to it on the right, and then the row below it. To switch which arrows you're using, just move them in your inventory to the top left corner.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

[bgcolor=rgb(153,255,153)][bgcolor=rgb(204,204,204)]Pa[/bgcolor]rt 4: The Handy Dandy Garden Hos[bgcolor=rgb(187,187,187)]e;[/bgcolor][/bgcolor] Growing Sugarcane is generally pretty easy, but [s]one of the main difficulties[/s] the only difficulty of growing sugarcane is that you need a source of water. Some people might live near a body of water, but maybe you only have a bucket of water, and a body of water is so far away that trying to get to it at night would be dangerous. The hose allows you to access a source of water from 32 blocks away.

This gets even better, because if you craft it into a sprinkler hose. It will create a large area that sugarcane can grow in without having to be next to a block of water, and the cane will grow twice as fast! Put THAT in your cake, and eat it!

For those of you who aren't that big on gardening, the hose has one more use. It can be crafted into a boat motor that'll turn your normal boat into a motorized speed machine! High speed water travel FTW!

By placing 7 wool of any 1 color, and two iron ingots at any 2 opposite corners of a crafting table, a hose can be created that is the color of whichever color wool you used. Having different colored hoses is good if you have a lot of them, that way you can keep track of which hose goes where, and they can even overlap each other!

How the hose works is as simple as can be!
Step 1: Grab your newly crafted hose, and right click at a source of water.
Step 2: Carry the other end of the hose to wherever you need some flowing water. Water will flow out of the non-source end when placed, or when carried. Reaches a max distance of 32 blocks. Should the hose be carried farther than 32 blocks, the end you're currently holding will drop automatically.
Step 3: To move either end, just right click it, and then move it to where you want it to be.

To create a sprinkler hose, just place 3 iron ingots in a row above a hose. It works the same as a regular hose, except the non-source end is a sprinkler that fills a 7x7 space around it with a rain shower that won't block the sunlight, but will count as a source of water, so the entire area can be filled with sugar cane!

A boat motor can be crafted by placing the hose with 4 steel ingots in a square above it, and 1 redstone next to it. Once you have this motor, just mount it onto a boat, and it becomes a motor boat that moves 3x faster! Vroom vroom! It also stops 2x faster, for safer porting.

Of course, if you're too lazy to craft a motor, you can simply hold a hose while in a boat, put one end in the water, and it'll make the boat go 2x faster, but you have to aim it behind you making you look the wrong way when sailing, so it's rather impractical to sail with unless you know where you're going very well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[bgcolor=rgb(255,255,153)]Part 5: Banana Trees;[/bgcolor] Did you know that when you're stomach hurts, eating a banana is one of the best ways to alleviate the pain? Well in this mod eating a banana would fill 3 hunger units, and cure food poisoning. That sure would be helpful if you were so desperate for food you ate rotten flesh, that way you can feed yourself with food you normally couldn't eat, and then the banana would fill you up after. Suddenly zombie flesh became useful!
Banana trees would look a lot like palm trees, and it's big leaves would be the source of bananas. The wood of it would be more yellow than the rest of the woods, and they would only grow on sand. Also you can walk on the leaves. This gives many new possibilities for a source of food and wood, making deserts more inhabitable.
Eating a banana has two parts to the process, peeling and then actually eating it, so it takes twice as long to eat. Banans could also be placed on a crafting table as an alternative source for yellow dye.
Banana Trees would consist of a new wood whose logs are like oak, but more yellowish, and creates a wood which is almost the same color as oak wood, but slightly brighter, and more yellowish. Each leaf of the banana tree is one big leaf that takes up 3 spaces, kind of like a palm tree. A normal sized banana tree would have 4-12 leaves on the top two logs of it, and the leaves can either go straight out of the tree, or go diagonally. Any 1 log of banana tree could have up to 8 leaves coming out of it. 4 diagonal, and 4 straight. The trees can also grow much larger like jungle trees, but in nature they are found in much less density than jungle trees, and only grows on sand. Other than that it grows just the same as any other tree.
tldr; Part one is flowers of every dye color that can be grown, Part two is a torch which lets plant grow in a large area around it, Part 3 is arrows with special powers from added flowers, Part 4 is an awesome hose which can become a boat motor, and Part 5 is Bananas, because Bananas!
I hope you enjoyed my mod idea, and if it gets enough support, maybe it'll be a real mod one day! Until then, this blog needs all the support it can get for the contest, so if you like this mod idea, then please [bgcolor=rgb(153,255,255)]diamond[/bgcolor], or [bgcolor=rgb(255,204,204)]favorite[/bgcolor] it. If you think of a way it could be even better, then please leave a [bgcolor=rgb(255,255,153)]comment[/bgcolor] and I might include your idea with permission, and if you just like stuff I make in general then you should [bgcolor=rgb(102,255,153)]Subscribe[/bgcolor] to me!
Update #2; The Arrows : by Pykes 12/13/2012 8:01:03 pmDec 13th, 2012
I took all the flowers, and turned them into arrows, just like you would be doing if this mod was real. Although you'd probably use a crafting table instead of photoshop.
Really liking the arrow ideas. I love minecraft archery but it is so limited. And I am also all for the tiki torch. l do think that it should be more than just a 2 sticks and 1 torch, for example having 3 torches or something. because it seems like a low cost for how useful it is. and also, You could do something with the bug repellent torches, but have it repel evil mobs, like the green torch in tekkit, but with a smaller range.
Great blog! Hope it wins!
I'll add a small bit to the tiki torch that when you right click it, it'll bring up a menu that lets you add rotten flesh to the torch, making it mob repellant for 1 real world hour per flesh.
