If there’s one thing that makes Minecraft more special and amazing than other games, it’s the massive community. In the six years since Classic was first released, literally millions of people are sharing their content with other players. Convention tickets are selling out in a matter of minutes. There are servers that appeal to all kinds of people; games servers, RP servers, modded, you name it. The acceptance in the community also shows through things like LGBT servers. Okay, it might not be totally widespread acceptance (looking at you, nine-year-old kid calling people gay).
Anyway, I think the Minecraft community is incredible because we looked at this indie game and said “Hey! This could be pretty awesome!” And we made it awesome. Minecraft wouldn’t be nearly as fun if it we didn’t have all of this community content. It’s also really cool how Minecraft has spread into education, which it couldn’t have done if it weren’t for people in the community realizing that it could be used to teach, and exploring how we could go about doing that.
It’s also pretty amazing that there are people out there making a living off of playing Minecraft and talking to their computer, recording it, and putting it on the internet. I feel like this has to do with the community because we’re the ones who are interested. We’re the ones who see a Minecraft video and say “That looks interesting!” and watch it, then go back and watch more. We want to know what other people in the Minecraft community can do.
So to finish up this blog, I’m just gonna say: Thanks Notch and Mojang, for starting this huge, creative, intelligent, supportive, and all around incredible community.
