Hello everyone! This story is based off of Myra_'s skin The Refugee (you can view it here).
She didn't have time to make a background story for the character like she wanted to, so I offered -- actually begged -- to make it for her, show her when it was done, and give her credit.
I'm going to end up making it a full life story, aren't I?
~Chapter One~
I heard voices outside of our tent. Men shouting, getting closer as the light from torches danced across the canvas. My mother held me closely as an angry voice rose above the rest and the sound of flames crackling soon overpowered all. My mother looked regretfully at me and handed me my baby brother Anthony. "Hurry, Maya, and run away from here with your brother. Take these, they will come in handy." She handed me a pocket knife and a dagger and spoke the last words I would ever hear her say. "Avenge me, my warrior. Avenge me." With that she grabbed a sword and jumped outside of the tent, yelling defiantly. I was able to slip away from all the commotion with a small baby that would become the thing I treasured most. To the day of my seventeenth year, I regret not bringing my beloved mother with me.
~Chapter Two~
I woke up groggily as the sun beat through the rabbit skin tarp. Anthony was already awake, playing as usual. I had been having nightmares about the day I was forced to flee from the dangers of the real world. It was hard to belive that was nine years ago. After all the excitement I had found a cave 1500 blocks away from camp. It had a small river in the back and plenty of game outside. Unforutunetly, the food and iron had run out a week ago and it was time to move. I called for Anthony and our pets, the tiger cub Song (she was mine) and our husky, Dave. My brother was never very creative when it came to names. We traveled until the blocky sun resigned itself and set up temporary camp on the outcropping of a mountain. As I lay down to sleep with my animals behind me, I prayed to Notch that we would survive the night. At last I fell asleep, holding my brother tightly. They can't take him. I thought sleepily. Not without going through me first.
~Chapter Three~
Something was wet on my face. Dave was licking my nose, trying to wake me up. I threw my arms around him and pet him, telling him he was a good boy. A voice carried in from outside. "About time you woke up, Anthony. Breakfast is getting cold, and Dave found us some rabbit." I wrinkled my nose and stepped outside of the tent, taking in the beautiful day. I saw the promise of rain from the stormclouds barely in my render distance. When I pointed these out to Maya, however, she just laughed and told me that I worried too much. "Come on, we're moving to a new place with lots of trees for you to climb, I promise. Just have some fun for once!" I sighed. I tried to match her optimisim and ended up looking like a creeper who was TNT-blocked. So I gave up and as we packed our things, I thought about the 8 years ahead of me. 8 years until I was Maya's age. Then I would end up being the older sibling and I would get to tell her what to do. I thought on the possibility and of the things it would bring. No chores, no baths, no hunting...
~Chapter Four~
All I heard was sceaming. I opened my eyes and I was laying on the ground, but it didn't appear to be made of pixels. I
gasped and jumped to my feet. It was like one amazing texture pack, gasped and jumped to my feet. It was like one amazing texture pack, except... "Why are there no nametags?" I wondered aloud as I gazed at the players. They were even more unique with no blocky figure or the players. They were even more unique with no blocky figure or skins. Everyone seemed to be different in some small way, whether it was skin color or hair colors I didn't think you could even get in Minecraft. Everyone was staring at me, eyes actually blinking. I backed away and ran as fast as I could on my unsupportive legs. I smashed into a wall and as I stood to get up, a man half hidden in shadows stepped closer, and with an evil grin, held up the dead body of my brother. That's when I realized that the screaming I heard before I woke up here was mine. I shot upward and breathed deeply a couple of times before frantically scanning my campsite and was relieved when I saw my brother asleep across Dave. I picked him up and lay him where I had just been, moving his ever-faithful wolf friend closer to him. I lie down on some other blankets and used Song as a pillow. She didn't mind. I stared at the square moon, in its proper place, unable to sleep as it soon would.
~Chapter Five~
After a few more weeks of trekking through dense jungles and ominous ice spikes, I found a place with trees woven tightly together, perfect for making a tree house. And there was plenty of room underneath them to build a small cottage for when it was storming. It had a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, and a ravine with a lavafall cut deep into the side. The area had all kinds of animals. I spotted a baby chick, whom Song would have loved to play with and tried not to cry. The little tiger had been miserable on their trip, looking at the tall jungle trees with longing. As much as it had hurt, I had removed Song's collar and let her loose in the wild. The cub had looked at her curiously for a moment, then gave a small nod, licked my face and ran off.
So tell me what you think! Do you want the story to continue? Should I make the chapters longer? Are you going to say 'Kitten! You're so good at storytelling!'? All of the questions will remain unanswered until you comment! SO DO IT NOW, PUNY MORTALS.
