Herobrine is a well known character in Minecraft, and is a popular creepypasta.
However, there are multiple stories about this character. Here is my version :)
In alpha 132211, Notch was testing before he released publicly, but something strange was happening, an unknown entity was spawned in the world. And he chatted, this was strange because the chat was not implemented to the game. His text read this :( emag siht tnuah ot gniog ma I. Which is backwards text. Notch then translated it and he found out it sayed this: I am going to haunt this game :). Notch was horrified at this moment, he then went into the code and found a strange line: (create.entity;Herobrine;Name(Herobrine);)
He found out that this code was generating an entity, and he also found a hidden chat code that read: (bind:T;chat;use;unicode(chatText(name;chat.unicode(characters=all(read);client)\
He deleted the Herobrine code, but kept the chat code, the chat was implemented in later Beta Versions.
He then logged back in, Herobrine was gone. He then had frightening nightmares that night and told no one at the Mojang team about what he experienced. He later released Alpha 132211 publicly.
He had several reports of 'Herobrine' and he ignored them all, he was then notified by an Alpha user:
paulsoaresjr, he checked the code. But nothing was there. He denies it to this day, and he will not engage in any conversation about 'Herobrine'. And to this day, many users are reporting 'Herobrine' to still be in the code. But Notch denies it.....
However, he still has fun with the theory of herobrine:
