Recently, I decided to start a series of blogs comparing various things, and starting today the age old argument (that's 7 years old): Xbox 360 versus PlayStation3.

I will always be slightly biased towards the Xbox as I owned the 250GB slim for a number of years before selling it to make way for my Desktop PC.

Unfortunately the official statistics of both consoles have evaded me so perhaps you guys will have to post below what they are. Here is how it is for me: I have always preferred the Xbox because it has the chunky controller which I prefer and the Xbox also hosts the Forza racing platform which I prefer compared to Gran Turismo. I also preferred the menu style on the Xbox. I know that these are all small silly factors, but for me they often mean the most.

I have to say that I prefer the PS3's online system as, for one, is free whereas Xbox Live you have to pay for, and even then there are adverts. I also think I prefer the PS3's classic game library with all the old PS2/1/SEGA games to the Xbox's collection of old Xbox games.

Inebitably it comes to the Kinect vs. Move part. I know full well that PlayStation Move works with a wider variety of games wheras Kinect is restricted to games that involve long sweeping movements like Dance Central. I think I prefer the Kinect system as the idea of there being no controller at all intrigues me. This is also partly due to the fact that me and Rageman96 have had tremendous fun on Kinect in the past.

And then there's the Lips vs. Singstar. *sigh*. I DON'T CARE. Make up your own mind. Lips is cooler because it has MC Hammer. That is all.

Effectively the stuff above is my opinion. I would encourage you all to discuss your opinion in the comments below.

Dan.

P.S. I know the PC is the superior platform. you do not need to remind me.

P.P.S. I thought about including the Wii here but lets be honest it's the lame horse at the race here. I can think of no good thing about it.

P.P.P.S. Yes, I did use MS Paint for the cover photo. My copy of Photoshop hasn't arrived yet.

Only just seen this..well, here goes..

I of course will be biased towards the Xbox as I own one, but both consoles are obviously good as they sold as many as they did. I prefer the Xbox controller as I find the PS3 controller too small to grip comfortably, but I suppose that's something you get used to in time. I had no problem, though, adjusting to the Xbox controller when I first bought my Xbox.

Yes, I understand that PSN is free, but the console is £100 more expensive than the Xbox. This means that you could could buy Xbox Live for 2 and a half years (at Microsoft's £40 a year) or 3 1/3 years (at online store's £30) before what you paid matched up to the price of the PS3 alone.

Yes, the PS3 does have a web browser. But in the next dashboard update, the Xbox is getting one too, running on Internet Explorer 9. IE is awful on PC, but it has been modified in such a way for the Xbox edition that it won't be as bad as it sounds.

PS3, I agree, has better graphics on paper. But I don't really care about graphics, much. I played on a tiny 14" TV with messed up colour and sound for 15 months, and I didn't complain about the graphics. I now play on a 26"(?) HD TV and on the Xbox, I think the graphics are fantastic. Even on games such as CoD4 and Halo 3 which have been out for 5 years, the graphics are very good for its time. MW2's graphics on Xbox are very good, and BF3's graphics are insane. And that's on the Xbox. I've played MW2 on PS3 and I didn't see any difference at all in graphics. It was equal, I couldn't tell the difference between the Xbox and PS3 graphics. So if you say the graphics on PS3 is noticeably better than Xbox, I will have to say that you're wrong.

One thing that I've found is actually better on PS3 is the lack of static noise coming down the headset while playing online. This is because a very small amount of PS3 players own a headset, so you will very rarely be accused of being terrible. I don't mind being mocked for my awfulness, even if I've just gone 51 and 10 running around with a bolt-action on BF3, but when the whole enemy team is shouting at you on MW2 S&D for using an automatic, this is one thing that PS3 has the advantage over. And before you say it, you don't get that many 10 year olds screeching down the headset on CoD, just on MW2 S&D, and that's because they're all going for their 1337 MLGpro tr1cksc0p3z and recording for their new montage.

PS3 also has the money transfer thing in its favour. Microsoft seem to try and mask the amount you're paying behind Microsoft Points, and very little people actually know the exchange rate. But on PSN, you pay £10 or £20 or £30. So much more simple and you know what you're paying. But that's not enough to make people switch from Xbox.

So yeah, in my opinion, Xbox is better. It's cheaper, I find it lags less, it has party chat, and we don't get hacked.

Oh dear god, Battlefiled and CoD, that should be interesting.
As far as the blog goes, Im for PS3, I have grown up with the playstation as I prefer the smaller easy to navigate controller, where as Xbox has a much larger controller with some hard to reach buttons. I made that choice when I was young and it was PS2 Vs Xbox (Not 360, just the big ol' box with an X on it.) as the PS2 controller was small, easy to reach, and in my opinion more control over the character in most games, even when the sensitivity is set the same. The Xbox controller also had VERY hard to reach buttons (Black and White) which were involved in quite a few games as far I can remember.
Now, hopefully some 12YO isn't going to play keyboard warrior and just start gloating about his MLG-360-NoScope-Acrossmap-Headshot Double kill that he got on XBL.

The network is by FAR superior on the PS3, simply because it is free and the web browsing is similar to that of a PC, where as the Xbox does not even have a web browser ( as far as I know of ), Microsoft like always, just rape you for money when you buy an Xbox.

Graphics wise, Playstation wins this, simply because it is Blu-Ray compatible, and all the games run in Blu-ray which means much better graphics on many games, the newest Xbox is not even blu-Ray compatible which is a huge letdown seen as it would make for much more interesting conversations when comparing the two consoles.

I agree with you on most parts, however I guess the controller is a matter of opinion and hand-size. Also like you I had a PS2 but when it came to upgrade the 360 was the cheaper option so that's what happened. The PS2 is the only console I still have, apart from the Wii, but that doesn't count...

I'd say PS3 is better then Xbox360, as some stuff on the PS3 is free were as the same stuff on Xbox you'd have to pay, I also used to have a Xbox (Not a Xbox360, just the old one) but it broke, though, I've never really played on a Xbox360, so it's seems unfair to judge it. (Btw, I'm not saying Xbox360 is bad or anything, I mean, I've never even played it!)
