The non-forge version of TMI mod use the byl.class file that only exists on 1.8 but not older and that's why TMI doesn't work for older versions but now I don't why the file is removed. And why the creator do not have an older version that works with older minecraft versions.
But the forge version might work for older versions.

Nope forge 1.8.8 dosen't work with tmi at all and tmi can't be updated due to outdated class file (guicontaner.class) now is diffrent then the older one.
