This is such a great idea! I could totally see this as something Mojang would actually add.

What about the new donkeys? They can carry items too. :D

Hmm... If crates can be picked up can you still hold another item, eg. your diamond pick?
Also maybe if you want this to be simmilar to other games, crates could be an entity that can be pushed around. That way you send them long distances very easily without fear of danger. YOUR TNT CANNON!
