Place ladders on the barriers

Join the map in Minecraft 1.7 or lower

The ladders will be floating.

Place ladders on the block.

Join the map in Minecraft Version 1.4 or lower.

The blocks will have disappeared.

Rejoin in whatever version you are building in.
