A popular category of projects is spaceships. I always see them and where the owners portray them and say hey why did they do it in the dead of day. If you want your ship to look good then take the picture during the night. Then you get a black background, if you have the land deleted which you should, and stars, which makes it as realistic to a space environment as your going to get in minecraft.

I didn't do my picture this way, i did it underground which is an alternative. What you want to watch out for though is render distance as portrayed in my photo. If your computer can't handle the distance or your ships just to big than you may have to do it during the day because of the affect the blue has on the black.
