What it Means to be in a Community

Being members on PMC we're all 'Community' members. (Except the guests, you guys should probably join our epic society. pls.) If you don't believe me, have a look at the definition of 'Community'. There's really no reason why you wouldn't agree though.. PMC is a large based community, even though you don't know about 95% of them.

Thank you google! Let's go with definition 2, a lot of users on PMC share similar goals, interests, and sometimes even attitudes. Anyways, that's the backbone and bare definition of "Community" just to define it for you. Now, I bet even if you're the most popular moderator/person on PMC, or anywhere. You're not going to know everybody.

"So...how does it make it a community...?"

Well again, going back to definition two, "A feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing many common interests, attitudes, and goals." You may not know most of the people on PMC, but if you're an active member, you're going to know quite a bit of people from chatting in the chat rooms, messing around on the forums, possibly even meet others through projects. What's funny is, there are so many users on PMC it's literally impossible to know EVERYBODY. In a small server environment, say a server that only gets about a player base of 20 people. You're gonna know a lot of them, or even all. The question is though, how many people are actually active, and make an effort to put themselves out into the community? Let's put this into order.

How many people use PMC?

1,198,380 Total members as of 9/1/2013. Holy son of Notch! One million people? Let's take into account how many people are online (estimate) usually.
About 9k people are on right now as of 8:27 PM "Hmm...that's not as much..."
How much traffic does the site get daily? Well that'd be harder to guess, but I'm guessing around possibly 100k (overkeel)
Keep in mind, I'm just guessing. It could be way lower.
How many people are actually active? What about inactive accounts? That I can't count ;n; but there has to be a high number of inactive accounts. (Question of the day; How many people do you think use PMC that aren't inactive or don't post?)

What about the community, itself?

PMC has high traffic, as it's one of the "big" Minecraft sites. Think of how many people play Minecraft.
11,988,303 people have officially bought the Minecraft game, PMC is small compared to how many people have bought the game. Eleven million, geeze... (Keep in mind these numbers are what I'm getting from the websites themselves)
PMC has a smaller community, but they all share at least one thing in common. They like something about Minecraft. You as a Minecraftian yourself, are at least in three communities. The Minecraft community, the PMC one :3 (Since you're viewing this.), and I'm going to count at least one of the servers you probably play on as a community. Unless it's one of those giant servers where you barely know anyone.

What DOES it mean to be in a community? (Mainly PMC)

Ahaha... I was waiting to get to this...

Well, to actually be IN a community, no matter what kind. Of course you have to be active, even if it's just talking to people. In the PMC community it means possibly chatting, being on the forums, or even posting. PMC has a wide variety of things you can do in it. It makes the whole experience loads more fun, and enjoyable. I find that the PMC community in general is just a place where you share interests, and common goals. Not to be blunt, but think about it. A lot of us are here for the same reasons, to share our work or show it off, to try and be popular, be social, etcetera. We came to the community to share what we have in common. It's a great way to be social without actually being social. (hehehe... e^e) PMC is a great way to wrap so many things into one, with how much there is to it. No wonder it has a million users, and hopefully that userbase grows in the future for us to share more work with the rest of Minecraftia.

Thanks for reading guys, but as you can tell this was one of my less serious blogs. I hope to have more of these in the future, it was really fun to write.

Good post, and very true. However, I have trouble finding things to create everyday, even every week. So I do not post regularly.

Alright, so we've established what the word means and that that definition applies to the site, but I could have gotten all of that from the dictionary alone. What exactly is the point you're trying to convey here?

Basically in a nutshell, I was conveying what has to do with actually being in a community, and what activity does with it.
