Welcome to the first ever Texture Pack review quite like this one by yours truly, plyr_783!

So as you all are probably aware, I have just recently completed my final Crater Castle update and have probably realized that I didn't use the same texture pack as I normally use on my projects. Why? Well, to put it simply, it was due to the fact that the TP I was so used to using, the JohnSmith TP, didn't bring out the best beauty of the project itself. Because of this change, I got to asking myself..... "Is there really more to using texture packs than most of us think?" The answer to that is yes. It's really rather simple, when you think about it. To use a reference, it's like trying to find your own kind of style of clothing, your own style of drawing, or even your own style of doing things. Each of us has different ways we go about these things, and the same goes with projects and texture packs.

Today, we aren't looking at just a single texture pack and the looks of it, we're looking at multiple texture packs, the different styles of each texture packs, and the main theme of the TP itself. I will be reviewing TPs I have personally used and have heard about.

Styles of Texture Packs - Key
  • Fantasy - Fnts
  • Artistic - Art
  • Realistic - Rltc
  • Modern - Mdn
  • Futuristic - Ftr
  • Medieval - Med
  • Victorian Era - Vic
  • SteamPunk - StmPk
  • Cartoon - Crtn
  • Videogame - Vdgm
  • Other - Otr

Please keep in mind, these reviews are solely my opinions on the following texture packs. The reviews may not be entirely accurate; I am going off of my opinions and experiences with these texture packs. I take no credit whatsoever in their ownership/creation. They are owned by their respected creators/owners

The texture packs:
  • Antiqua's Aurae Terris Texture Pack [Fnts/Art]:

This is the TP I used in the final update for my Crater Castle (Crater Castle: The Dawn's End). In this TP, the appearance of the different blocks is so unique that gives a very artistic view of the Minecraft world. In fact, it was specifically designed for the sole purpose of creating an artistic and fantasy like builds (i.e. my Crater Castle; The Dawn's End project). The ores and their solid block forms (if they have any other than their ore block form), and the wools are the primary subjects of this TP for creating these artistic and fantasy build. This TP is also the signature TP of the famous Angel Block Society, a group of great ship and architecture builders in which started off right here on PMC.
  • John Smith's JohnSmith Texture Packs [Rltc/Med/Vic]:

The JohnSmitth TPs are probably the most well known TPs out there in the MC community. These TPs are a part of my personal favorites, mostly in part from the look of the glowstone. These TPs are best suited for if youo re building Medieval or Victorian houses. They areno t, however, always the best choice for building castles with.

Disco_o s oCd texture pack is a great texture pack to use for those of you who are like me and have OCD Perfectionism when it comes to building. Ito s such a simple look to the world of Minecraft that you cano t really go wrong with. It may take some time to get use to at first but ito s the best choice for when youo re starting out a build. BUT, this pack is also a very good texture pack for doing a laboratory kind of build as well. And for those of you who wish to become like Disco_ and be a top notch redstone builder and just want something away from the main stream original MC texture pack but cano t decide this texture pack is also for you.
  • Doku's Dokucraft Texture Packs [Rltc/Med/Vic/Ftr]:

So I hear you like to build airships like that of Rovao s. Well Dokuo s Dokucraft Texture Packs are a clear choice for what youo re looking for when choosing a texture pack for those kinds of builds. These texture packs are the best choice for building airships with simply because of the appearance having the phrase o use me in an airship buildo practically written all of it. Now given, Rova probably doesno t even use this TP himself, but in my mind, this TP would still make a pretty mean choice for use when it comes to making airships.

This TP is also among my personal favorite TPs. Ito s specially designed for creating those Medieval and Victorian era castles of yours. Yo know, the ones that have the complete villages with the windmills, water wheels, and such. Ito s even great for fantasy builds as well. Also, this TP is a great compliment for those harbors you often see in shows like One Piece and many other shows much like it.

This texture pack has a slight bit of a Legend of Zelda: WindWaker look to it. The TP also has a bit of a toony Roman feel to it as well (much like that in the Disney movie Hercules), which is probably the more accurate way of describing this TP. Ito s a great TP for those that like more of a toony look. Ito d be a great TP for those who also love to role play and build replicas of Legend of Zelda: WindWaker (despite the fact that this TP itself was probably not based off the game itself) and Hercules builds. In the preview of this TP, you can see that this was a TP that is best used with the Aether Mod.

In all, it all depends on the kind of project youo re working on and the look of it as well. So be sure to take some time to do some research on some texture packs and see what would work best for your project at hand, just be sure to not spend too much time on the search or else you might not be able to get your project finished anytime soon. If it comes down to it, you could always do what I did with my Crater Castle, and build the structure you plan on building first out of the materials you want to create it out of, find a good texture pack that could potentially aid the final look of the project, test out the TP and try different blocks of similar properties to what you have planned already for the build.

Just FYI
This will more than likely be my only review blog ever. So please don't ask me to do any reviews unless you're someone I know and that I would be willing to help out with it, if you're not then you're not gonna get one out of me until you are one of those people.

This is a great review! I think it's awesome that you mentioned me with the Doku pack, but what's really hilarious is I actually use SMP revival for 90% of my projects lol. XD

ROFL, Im totally serious. You can even ask Lynchy or Antiqua.

However, Doku is a very solid airship choice. Khanaris and myself can attest to that, as well as Kitsuna777.
