What will Minecraft be like in 10 years?

There's a lot that can happen in 10 years. The fact is, that Minecraft will change. For the better, or for the worse. We've gone from dark cobble and stone worlds, to these amazing generated worlds and mobs. Will we get guns? Flying horses? Magical frogs? Who knows!

Now that Minecraft is owned by Microsoft, it may take a different turn than what we expected. While Notch may have focused on somethinga bit more cented on mining and surviving, and building, Microsoft might be going to take it somewhere else. So, what will Minecraft be in 10 years? Well, we can all expect many, many, many more blocks. We typically get a few more every few updates (debugging ones not accounted for), and new mobs pop up here and there. A big part of me expects for there to be a few more bosses, and maybe even a new dimension! We might end up with new weapons, tools, and more animals we can tame to be our pets. Wouldn't it just be delightful to have a pet hawk (or any kind of bird!)?

Textures will be changed. We've seen it happen. Cobble, brick, gravel, and many more. Some for the worse, others for the better. I personally liked the old gravel texture, but luckily resource packs are handy for that. it might even be something a bit different, like new cow colors alternatives or new horse coats!

If you've even been paying a tiny bit of attention, combat is changing. In this case, they're adding sheilds, removing blocks with swords, and adding new arrows. New weapons (have been rumored) and because we are all human, combat will probably change at least once after 1.9 comes out.

Many more things will happen! If you could influence the future, what would you want added? Removed? Would you change anything? Tell me in the comments below!

HOLD UP

Barely any games have survived 10 years, and I don't particularly think that Microsoft is going to care about Minecraft somewhere around that timespan anymore. The Minecraft community is already dying, with less and less active players every day. The thing that'll most likely happen is that something will replace Minecraft, with all of the newer and better survival games coming out and bigger communities. And to be honest; in 10 years, are you really still going to be playing Minecraft?

I definately think Minecraft will still be around. It's stayed on this long, what's 10 more years?
And yes, the community has gotten smaller, but it keeps updating, bringing in MORE players each day.
New mods and maps are being released every day too, giving a little something extra for the players to do.
And Microsoft will still care about Minecraft. At least i would hope so, due to the fact they bought it for billions of dollars. Maybe Microsoft will bring something new to Minecraft, drawing in more players. Ya never know :)

Total agree. It's pretty darn high, but higher is always better.

I've seen mods for all of these that I say below, but some are outdated and they would enhance vanilla gameplay a lot without changing too much.

One thing I'd like to see is better peaceful survival. I hate monsters so much. Being able to mine up or gather plants with their drops, or alternatives with the same functons, would be nice.

Flying pasive and hostile mobs in the overworld would be cool.

Mob spawning controls would be nice. Like being able to increase, decrease or disable a certain mob's spawn rate. *disables creepers*

Hopefully easier ways to put paintings up, placing blocks a certain way everytime instead of angling, like a toggle would be great for building faster. Add a better option like f3 but to see chunks, make more blocks effect water in different ways instead of the standard full block layout that we have. So maybe we could make even better fountains and waterfalls.. I'd like those.

The waterfalls we have are cool, but better water dynamics would be awesome.

I don't think Minecraft will be worked on for another 10 years. Eventually they'll just stop and have a final version of the game.
