Throughout my relatively short time playing minecraft It has came to my attention that many servers are failing, there can be many reasons why a server fails, but none more so that poor staff selection, so i have decided to write a blog which will point out key qualities to look out for in staff and the type of qualities to avoid.

Qualities to look out for

Maturity - Lack of maturity does not make your staff positions appear to be serious in authority, which will often lead to players breaking rules, also immature staff will tend to let people off lightly, or dish out unnecessary punishments for breaking minor rules.

Good judgement - Possessing good judgement skills is a great thing to look out for a good staff member will usually always be able to deal with a situation accordingly, a person with good judgement skills will often use their initiative when they don't know what punishment/reward to issue.

Greetings - A good staff member will always welcome a new face to the server, a welcome goes a long way, you should know what I mean - many times i have joined a server and felt really unwelcome just because of people not welcoming me.

Communication - Staff members should be able to communicate with each and every single person on your server - even if a staff member doesn't like a certain person they should always help them, lack of help can often lead to people feeling they are not getting the help they need to progress within a server. A good staff member will talk to players, ask them how they are etc.

Helpful - A helpful staff member is a precious staff member, a lot of people will become staff and actually won't help anyone within the server some are just there for the rank some are there for the commands but some people are actually there because they want to help people. Helpful staff don't need to be told to do something they just remain helpful aiding other staff members and players often without help even being asked for.
