Hello everyone! I'd like to start off with an apology for being inactive, just been busy lately. Now, a topic that hit my mind after watching a youtube video, why hasn't there been another Minecraft?

What do I mean by another minecraft? Well, there are many games out there. Minecraft has become a large part of the gaming industry, selling over millions of copies on the PC, Xbox, and now PS3. There are many other games that have been as popular and more, and always have sequels or more games of the same type produced. So why hasn't Minecraft, an extremely popular game? I have a few guesses, and I would like to share them with you.

MINECRAFT IS ORIGINAL
Nothing can beat the blocky game we know. It has an endless generating world, which is unlike all games. If you weren't a part of Mojang and tried to make something like it, it would most likely be ripping off the game, its hard to make something like Minecraft and still attempt to make it different. There have been many attempts, but none as successful as minecraft. It provides the excitement to kids and adults alike. It contains NO tutorials or rules, all you have to do is get it, and go on and play. Your game, your world. Everything is for you to decide. Nobody can tell you no.

MINECRAFT IS EDUCATIONAL
Believe it or not, many school use Minecraft for educational purposes. They use it to teach math, or give students the excitement to do projects. It gives the teacher total control too. There is a program called MinecraftEdu, and it is a huge program that helps children learn using Minecraft. (God, I wish I had this in my school). Even outside of school, minecraft teaches you basic survival skills and how to survive conditions in the real world. Minecraft might seem like a game that is ruining your life to your parents, but it provides you an education like no other.

MINECRAFT IS SOCIAL
Along with being educational and fun, minecraft can get you friends around the world. It provides not only singleplayer but it also gives your multiplayer, which allows you to join servers and have fun. It gives you a chance to meet new friends, especially if your shy in real life. It also gives you confidence, and fun. If you want to play as a group of friends, you can play on a small server, or if you would like to enjoy with many others, join a popular one. There is an endless number of servers, and new ones come to Minecraft all the time. Even you can make your own server, and do as you please! A great example of minecraft's social world is this website, PlanetMinecraft. It allows the whole minecraft community to interact with eachother and provide fun creations of their own to the world!

To sum it up, it would be hard to replicate or reproduce Minecraft. Its just one of those unique games that can't be copied. Even if games like Minecraft are made, they could never match up or do better. Minecraft is fun, original, and it can't be beat. Even if you go on to quit Minecraft, someday, you will look back at your experiences, no matter how many days or years you played it, and reflect back on them with a sense of happiness and joy.

I didn't read anything you posted. However I'd have to answer this question by saying that for me, gaming seems to be dead now. Even Minecraft seems to have less players on than it used to. Most games being created anymore are first person shooters. It seems that good games are something in the past. Very few RTS's are being created compared to what it was like several years ago. Most of the people I know agree with me that modern games are lousy. This is in no way based on any statistics, it is simply a group's opinion.

I feel that minecraft doesn't have a sequel due to the fact that there are updates. Many of the games of the systems that you mentioned are not able to update, since they are from a disk. Minecraft is downloaded onto your console or computer and can use the internet to improve whenever its necessary. Each update is like a sequel, but there are no payments or crazy downloads.

I think that the reason there is no Minecraft 2 is simply because not that many people play it. Tell me who would spend hundreds of hours and several million to create a game that less than 10 million will buy? When you can make a game like COD and have every kid between 6-12 buy it. My point being, big game companies are to busy playing around with consoles and creating huge but lame games. Some individuals would have to re-create Minecraft. Which then, who would play it when there is the popular and original one.

Simply, there isn't enough money to be made making a Minecraft 2. They would rather just create a COD every 6 months and get loads of cash. Don't think people are out to make "good games," They are mostly out to make money.

If you don't believe this take a look at all the "play to win" apps on Apple Store and Android. I haven't played a single game that didn't let you buy things in game. Most Minecraft servers are made to make money to. It is sad, but to me it seems no one wants to do anything good, they want to milk the system for money.

The reason they haven't made a sequel to Minecraft is because it's a sandbox game. You can't make a "Part 2" if there was no "Part 1", no story or anything to continue.

The sequel was just an example, what I meant to say was a game that was similar to Minecraft. No games have been made as such and provide the same fun minecraft does. I appreciate your thoughts however, thank you!

There are actually several on Android. Never downloaded them, but they are very similar to Minecraft.
