Why my skin is better than yours!?
Do you want to have a skin better than mine? Listen to your ears and even your eyes for this because I want you to have skins better than mine! I'm going to teach you the ways of shading the skin and being creative. Leto s start with the basics.
Leto s say you are going to post your masterpiece:
From your view ito s the best thing you ever made, but for everyone else, ito s a waste of space and they rather burn it to the ground. Leto s analyze this. It looks like a failed reject of what pacman looks like. It needs a whole lot more than a smile. This is where you use your brain and use creativity!
Ask yourself this, what are you making? A guy, girl, robot, eyeball? Leto s start something easy and make a guy. now what does a man look like? Of course it has eyes, ears, and mouth, but how do they look like in the pixelated world of minecraft? Find some skins of guys in minecraft, get an idea of what the face looks like first because people usually look at someone at the face first.
Ok you're getting somewhere, people can now say, "Hey, ito s crazy naked guy running around in the skin section, FLAGGED!" Don't worry, we are almost done creating a guy.
The clothes are hard to make but think about it in basic shapes. For jackets with pockets, make 2 rectangles on each side on the front with darker squares making pockets. Simple enough. you can experiment with different clothes and even add accessories to give him personality. You can make glasses, wristbands, shoes, marks on skins, etc on the guy, giving him colors of all kind!
Its a boy! You made it alive! This is what minecraft wanted, another good skinner. But it is missing something very important, shading. This is the scariest part, and yet so rewarding.
They are alot of ways to shade your character, but I will start with the very basis of shading. I like to call it The 2 Shader, where you simply add 2 shades of the same color. It can be dark and light, dark and darker, and even light and lighter shades of the original color. It is useful for making the saggy-ness of the pants and show depth on the character so it won't look like a flat cardboard box.
Now that's what I'm talking about, a generic boy! This is just the beginning of what you can do. It will take some time to master this technique; maybe you will find your own style, but If you feel cocky and show-off what you can really do, Scroll down for a better way to shade for experts! Or in this case, be better than me in skins!
For more of an advance shading, If you using gimp or any software for creating skins, Get a darker and lighter color and use the opacity tool to get that shading effect. Experiment on the percent to get a drastic effect on your character.
Another way to shade is my favorite one, the Dodge & Burn Effect. Using this will take some time to fully understand and master, but it is definitely worth it. There is tools called the dodge tool and burn tool. The burn tool makes the original color darker while the dodge tool makes it lighter. Try not to overdue it, leaving like a burning scar on the face. That will hurt.
That's really... great! Everything about it looks fantastic, maybe you're better than me. Wait, what am I talking about? I'm still the best! Try and see what you can come up with, maybe it will be way better than my skins.
