I have a World Save for this too!
I've been thinking about a way to make wireless redstone in vanilla minecraft, no mods or anything like that. It would use the light detectors in the newest snapshot which emit a redstone signal depending on how much light there is, and by changing the time from anywhere in the world with a command block you could activate it. For now I can't think of any way to make different channels because activating more light will also activate the less light detector. You could also use the "doFireTick" command to enable fire to spread witch will somehow be hooked up to a BUD Switch and stuff. Also you could use the "doMobSpawning" command to let a spawner spawn a mob on a pressure plate if changing this rule does not interrupt your map/device/anything else you are making. I'm still thinking about it and I'll make a tutorial project if I can get it working well, but for the time being I've given everybody food for thought, and if you ever make something with this idea pls let me know and give me some credit, thnx! If you like the idea be sure to diamond, favourite, and subscribe. And if you have any thoughts concerning this be sure to let me know in the comment section.
No need for such complications for 1.5 will have testfor commands in which you can make variables in objectives that won't change anything in the scenery or anything like that. So... Yeah.
