NOTE: Although there aren't any graphics in this blog, I'd appreciate you to read. Take a moment to understand and think about what's being said. Thank you.
Hello, I'm Hybrid Warrior, and I'm here to talk about several things regarding individual's avatars.
What a lot of minecrafters tend to show is a lack of consistency when it comes to their IG (in game) profile. Players can be found with poorly made skins depicting a regular person or wearing very popular skins that are really well made, but have no significant association between the user and the skin. This raises an issue, the player's identity is reduced to a username.
There's nothing wrong with being identified solely through a name, however, players also come up with usernames that are extremely long, contain numbers, and are just strung up words with no significant means of creating unique identities for the player.
Adding numbers and multiple X's doesn't help either.
So, why does it matter if people don't hold a good image of who you are while you play?
It's not an issue that affects you as an individual, but it does hinder your ability to work with strangers in team situations, or in building a relationship with an online community.
People famous in minecraft have very original names that stand out, and give an impression of that person because you begin to associate THAT unique name to THEIR content. It's much more difficult to associate EnderAwesome2555XX with a Feed the Beast Lets play, or anything for that matter. Of course, one isn't expected to literally demonstrate their content through their name, but having a good name will make it easier to get people's attention and leave in imprint in their memory.
AntVenom, Etho, GuudeBoulderfist, CaptainSparklez, Honeydew, ect.
These names don't tell you what the individuals do, but they are names that are catchy, interesting, and overall unique. They have "flavor" to the name, and makes it easier for people to remember them.
So, we see how a username that's at least not generic like EpicXxX1000 can provide some advantage for identification. But that's something we can't change once chosen. Unless of course, you're willing to buy minecraft again.
So, what if you are stuck with a generic name? A good skin.
It's difficult if you don't really associate yourself with a specific theme or thing. For myself, I'm a huge fan of Predators, so naturally I made a predator skin for myself, only a custom version. I like green and burnt umber, so my skin uses those colors.
If you're having difficulty with creating an avatar for yourself, think of these things.
-Favorite colors
-Theme (sci-fi, medieval, modern..)
-Favorite Characters
-what environment do you prefer in MC? (snow, forest, jungle?)
-Username
By keeping everything above in mind, you can begin to form a picture of what you would like as an identifying skin. Experiment, don't be afraid to try to commit to an avatar for a month to see if you like it.
In general, being unique in MC and standing out from the crowd will help you build relationships, gain popularity (in the sense of people knowing who you are), and an interesting profile.
