Changelog:
• Feature: Setting to disable the reload message
• Change: Changed the function to give the settings manual to "function legacy_combat:give/settings_manual"
• Change: Small tweak of the settings manual's layout
• Bug fix: Speed wouldn't revert while changing dimensions (This was a big one, oops)
• Internal: Minor Code Rework

Many people dislike the 1.9+ combat mechanics with attack cooldown, but enjoy other changes to the game. This datapack modifies the combat mechanics back to 1.8 so that there is no attack cooldown and weapon attack damage values.

Short video demonstrating the datapack

This datapack has 3 main presets:
  • 1.9+ (unmodded Minecraft default): Attack cooldown enabled, no weapon attack damage modifications, netherite gear enabled
  • 1.8 with Netherite (this datapack's default): Attack cooldown disabled, weapon attack damage modifications, netherite gear enabled
  • 1.8 without Netherite: Attack cooldown disabled, weapon attack damage modifications, netherite gear disabled
The three presets can also be modified more specifically through 3 configurations:
  • No Attack Cooldown (enabled by default): Removes the 1.9+ attack cooldown
  • Weapon Attack Damage Modifications (enabled by default): Modifies attack damage of weapons to match 1.8 (example: 1.9 diamond axes deal 9 damage, 1.8 diamond axes deal 6)
  • Enabling Netherite (enabled by default): When disabled, prevents you from holding or wearing netherite tools, weapons, and armor. You can still use netherite items like ingots and blocks when disabled. However, this option is off by default.
One more addition is an attack damage identifier, which shows how much damage you will deal when you hold a weapon or tool. Sometimes it doesn't match what the tooltip on the item says, but the GUI is always correct, even when the tooltip isn't. Players can toggle this by typing "/trigger lc_dmg_gui"

Very cool. Makes deflecting ghast fireballs easier for me. It does't have block hitting, nor does it remove sweeping attacks, but I don't mind. This kinda makes 1.16 combat a lot easier, though it is true that spamming left click will perform weak attacks (turn on subtitles and you'll see). The cooldown bar is not visible, but it's secretly still there, so spamming left click will give less damage per hit, but still a very useful datapack.

This is just not true, the damage output is the same weather or not you wait to attack or just spam. It's the same way if you join a server with this pack on Bedrock edition. I encourage you to test this yourself, it's possible the pack is misconfigured or there are conflicting packs applied making the cooldown silently return. I hope you can get it working properly.

Reinstall the datapack and open the book, there’s a dedicated uninstall button on it which will help remove the cool down

This was lazily made >:( all it does is repeatedly set my attack speed attribute to 99990! I already did this in my world but looked to find a good datapack that actually removes sweeping attacks and adds block hitting.

Does this work with older versions like 1.14.4 or 1.15.2?
