Elytra Boost is a simple data pack that gives players an alternate way to fly with the elytra.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Usage:
After equipping the elytra, crouch and look directly at the ground to begin ignition. After ignition has started (shown by smoke and fire crackling) simply wait a few seconds whilst holding crouch to be launched into the air. You do not need to continue looking at the ground after the ignition has started. Smoke will build up and you'll be sent spiraling into the air!
The smoke trail you receive after launch indicates the boost cooldown, which lasts 20 seconds.
Installation:
To install, locate your Minecraft directory by pressing the windows button and typing %appdata%. Locate the ".minecraft" folder. Open the saves folder and find your world folder. Now just throw the data pack into the "datapacks" folder and type the command "/reload" in your world.
NOTE: It is crucial that you type the command "/reload" after installing any data pack!
This data pack is 100% multiplayer-friendly!
Changelog:
v1.3:
- Smoke trail is much less likely to be in the user's face while flying.
v1.2:
- Smoke trail lasts longer at 20 seconds instead of the previous 12.5 seconds.
- Zip file no longer requires the user to unzip the folder before installing the data pack.
v1.1:
- Forced player scoreboard init through the advancement "Scoreboard Init" instead of through pack initialization to allow newly joined players to use eboost. (Thanks, Zensiert_Gamer!! :) )
- Smoke trail is a bit thicker now and more dispersed
v1.0:
- Release Version; No Changes

I want to make something similar so I was just wondering how you did get the boost to work from a technical stand point. Is there a way to give a player velocity in a direction or did you give the player the levitation effect and then quickly remove it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Edit: I was using 7zip to take the files out of the pack and re-zip them and I accidentally made it a .7z instead of a .zip, the datapack works perfectly.
I hope this answers your question!
