Want to make Minecraft more difficult? Want to make taking damage more punishing? Want to make it harder to regain lost health? Well this datapack does all of those!
With this datapack, the damage you take will add up over time until it reaches a threshold of 5 damage taken, at which point your maximum health will decrease. Each night you can decrease the damage taken counter and therefore regain some lost max health. By default sleeping at night will reduce the damage taken counter by 20, which will effectively cause you to regain up to 4 health. However, regaining max health this way is limited to once per night. A slightly more unorthodox method of regaining lost max health, is by dying and respawning in game, which will completely reset the damage taken counter.
