If you place an end crystal and a dragon egg in the same block, it will start hatching the dragon egg. If the block underneath it is obsidian, it will turn to an amethyst block. It takes an hour for the egg to hatch, but if you:
Place an amethyst block under the egg, it speed up the time
Place 4 candles 2 blocks away from the egg in a plus shape, it speeds up the time
You can tell how fast it hatches by the color of the particles. Red means a longer time, and purple is about to hatch. Goes in rainbow order.
Once it hatches, it replaces the block under the egg with a chest that contains a new dragon egg, and you get a pet dragon. Your pet dragon is passive and rideable. Right click the saddle on it to ride it, and it will fly wherever you look. It is 100 health, and if it dies, you get a dragon head.
